Here are four factory booklets that are crammed with technical information about 911/912 Porsches!

901 Porsche, September 1963!

1. The "Porsche 901 Brochure" is one of the first, if not the first, sales brochure published by Porsche for the "900 series" Porsches, what we commonly know as 911 and 912 Porsches. 901 was the initial model number used by Porsche, later changed to 911 due to a name conflict with the French Peugeot 901. Actual production of the new 911 started in September 1964 for Model Year 1965. The brochure comes in English and German language versions, and possibly French. The "E" in the bottom left corner stands for English! There is a very good reproduction of this brochure floating around, beware!

2. & 3. "Porsche 901/2000 Technical Data" v. "Porsche 911 Technical Data". These two early technical data brochures represent the time frame in which the original Porsche 901 was renamed the Porsche 911, because of the name conflict with the French automaker Peugeot and the Peugeot 901. Both contain essentially the same technical data, including graphs, although the above 901 technical data brochure is in English and the 911 brochure is in German. The gold embossed sticker was added to the brochure by dealer Autohaus Elmshorn GMBH, located in Kölln-Reisiek, a city northwest of Hamburg, Germany.

4. The "Porsche 911 Brochure" may be one of the first actual production car brochures published for the 911 Coupe in October 1964. Regular production of the 911 Coupe started in September 1964 for Model Year 1965. This all-color 12 page brochure includes lots of technical data, together with lots of photographs of the interior, and various parts of the car including the front steering/braking assembly, and the transaxle. Interestingly, pictures show the 5 speed transaxle. The 911 model came with a 6 cylinder Boxer motor. Shown above is the German language version dated 10/64. There is also an English version dated 1/65. There may also be other date and language versions.

5. This 4 page "Porsche 911/2000 2+2 Coupe Brochure" was NOT published by the factory, but rather Porsche of America Corp., Neaneck, N.J. It is undated, but is believed to have been printed in late 1964 or early 1965. Basically, this is a black & white with red brochure that has a few pictures inside and technical information on the back cover. Horsepower of the 2-liter six cylinder engine is listed at 148hp SAE.

6. This "Early 356/911 Price List" is unusual in that it is one of the few sales literature items that mentions both the NEW 911 and the 356!  It is a simple 4 page folder on course paper. Prices for the various 356 models are included topping out at $4,985.00 for the 356-SC Cabriolet, as compared to $6,490.00 for the new six-cylinder 911 Coupe. Quite a price difference! Folder was published in the USA by Porsche of America, Corp., the USA distributor.

7. This 12-page all-color brochure is for the "Porsche 911 Coupe". Inside there are some beautiful color pictures of the interior and exterior of the car, and on the back cover are complete technical specifications, which show a 6 cylinder motor with 130 DIN horsepower. There are probably English and other language versions of this brochure.

8. This "1965 Porsche Accessory Price List" for Swiss market, consists of a single 4 x 9 inch sheet printed on two sides. The text is in German, and the item was printed in Switzerland. Notice that a 911 Coupe was priced at 29,750 Swiss francs.

9. "Porsche Factory Postcard", undated, believed to be 1965. Porsche published many postcards during this period showing their various models. The postcard is marked Dr. Ing. h. c. F. Porsche KG, Stuttgart on the back.

10. The "Porsche Air Brochure" announced the availability of the first factory authorized Air Conditioning System. It is a simple undated folder published in the USA sometime in 1965 by Porsche Cars North America, the North American Porsche Distributor at the time. Earlier after-market A/C units were manufactured Delanair for late 356 Porsches.

11. This "1965 Sunauto Price List" for the Porsche 911 and 912 measures 3 x 8 inches in size, and was printed in French in France, by Porsche distributor Sunauto, Paris, France.

12. "May 1965 Factory Color Chart". Above is a 911/912 Porsche factory color chart dated May 1965 showing the following colors for Model Year 1966:  Slate Gray (6601), Polo Red (6602), Golf Blue (6603), Light Ivory (6604), Bahama Yellow (6605), Irish Green (6606), Sand (6607), Aga Blue (6608) , and Black (6609). You can tell the year of a particular color by the first two numbers in the color number, i.e. 66 = 1966. This brochure is in English, French (Carte de nuances), German and Italian.

912 Porsche, April 1965!

13. The "Porsche 912 Brochure" is probably one of the first all-color brochures published by Porsche for the 912! There are many printing date versions of this brochure, as well as an English version, a French version, an English/German/French version, and versions in German, Swedish, and Dutch. There may be other date and language versions.

14. This undated "Service Inspection Postcard" is approximately 5 x 7 inches in size, is printed in English, and says on the back side:  "Its time for another inspection service and lubrication. Why the reminder? its less costly to maintain your Porsche than repair it". It is believed to have been published in 1965.

15. This early "Red 911 Brochure" is a 3-panel folder, and only covers the Porsche 911 Coupe. The pictures are mostly in color with nice interior and exterior photographs, together with extensive technical data on the back cover. The 6 cylinder 2-liter motor described in the brochure has 148 hp.

16. The "New Targa Brochure" introduces Porsche's newest model, the Targa, an open car with a built in roll-bar. The brochure illustrates the  four ways  to set  up the  top:  1. Top on, rear window up, 2. Top on, rear window down, 3. Top off, rear window up,
and 4. Top off rear windown down. The New Targa came from the factory as a 911 6-cylinder Targa, or a 912 4-cylinder model. This brochure was published more than a year before the first Targas rolled off the factory assembly line in December 1966 for Model Year 1967. So there were Targas manufactured in 1966 although they were for Model Year 1967!

17. This "September 1965 Accessory Price List" is probably for Model Year 1966. It lists the factory accessories available with prices in four languages: English, German, French, and Italian. In includes such things as chrome wheels, outside thermometer, safety belts, luggage, rear window wiper, special paint, elevated seats, tinted windshield, and much more. Based on the publication date, this price list probably goes with the following accessory booklet.

18. This "September 1965 Accessory Booklet" lists the various factory accessories available for the 911 and 912, some of which are shown in pictures below. The descriptions are in four languages, English, German, French and Italian.

19. This early "Prestige White 911 Brochure" is rare and hard to find. It was published in October 1965 and features the NEW 911 Porsche. Inside are color pictures and technical information.

20. The "Yellow 911 Porsche Brochure" covers only the 911 and is dated November 1965. This brochure is for Model Year 1966 and has 12 all-color pages, including the picture below. Complete technical specifications are shown on the back cover.

21. This "1966 912 Brochure" was published in November 1965 for Model Year 1966, and features only the 912. It is an 8-page all-color brochure with nice color pictures inside and complete technical information on the back cover. There is also a version of this brochure dated 6/65.

22. This "911 Tourist Delivery Folder" describes Porsche's program for picking up your new 911 at the Factory. On the back cover is a map of Stuttgart showing the Factory's location. It points out that the savings from buying at the Factory could pay for your trip to Europe. Many still treck to Europe to pick up their new Porsches! This brochure is nearly identical except for the color to one published for the 356-C in 1964.

23. This "Girl with Flowers 911/912 Brochure" was printed in September 1966 for Model Year 1967, with written text in English, French and German. It totals 20 pages and is all color. Extensive technical information and drawings are shown at the back of the brochure.

24. The above "Come-hither 911-912 Brochure" is a simple folder that comes folded in half or in thirds. It is undated and was published by Porsche of America Corporation sometime in 1966. It covers the new 911 and 912 series Porsches.

25.  This "1966 Promo Postcard" which is approximately 3.5 x 5.5 inches in size, in English text, and printed in the USA, was sent to potential customers.  It says on the front: "Come on in, you you'll never forget it." It uses the same image as a similiar 1966 foldout brochure shown above.

26. The "New 911-S Brochure" is an all-color multi-part folder that introduces the new 911-S. At 180 horsepower (SAE), this is the top of the line model for Porsche. This brochure is one of the nicest brochures published during the early 911 era and has become very collectable and routinely brings over $150.00US at auction.

27. This "July 1966 Accessory Booklet" (November 66 version for Model Year 1967) lists the various factory accessories available, some of which are shown in pictures below. The descriptions are also in four languages, English, German, French and Italian. Below are some of the items shown. Anybody care to guess what "Poggiatesta in finto cuoio con ganci per fissaggio, destro" means? Hint, it's for the "right side"!

911-S Porsche, Undated late 1966 or early 1967!

28. This "Early 911-S Brochure" is believed to have been for distribution in England and published sometime in late 1966 or early 1967. If you have information about this brochure, please contact the author.

29. This "911, 911-S, 912 Crest Brochure" measures 9 x 4 inches and totals 28 pages, the majority of which are in color. It is undated and covers the 911, 911-S and 912, but not the Targa. As a result it is believed to have been published sometime in 1967. A note on the back cover indicates that the brochure was prepared by Henry J. Kaufman & Associates in the USA, and printed in Western Germany using pictures that were mostly shot in Germany. There is a reference to Porsche of America Corporation's right to make changes without notice, so this brochure was probably destined only for the USA. Below is a page covering the Carrera 6.

Porsche Targas, Undated 1967!

30. This "Porsche Targa Brochure" is apparently quite rare and hard to find. I had never seen it until it came up for auction on Ebay recently. The brochure covers only the Targa model, has 14 pages, and has clear plastic pages that allow one to see the various top on/off, rear window up/down configurations, like the VW "Transart" Brochure well known to VW literature collectors.

31. This "1967 Tourist Delivery Folder" provides information on how to pick up your new Porsche at the Factory. It includes a map of Stuttgard on the back cover and is very similar to the 1965 version of the brochure.

911, 911-S, 912 & Targa Porsches, Undated 1967!

32. This "4 in One Targa Folder" is undated, but is believed to have been published sometime in 1967. It covers the new model Targa with its permanent roll bar, and it's three engine configurations:  911, 911-S, and 912. Folded up, the folder measures 8.5 x 4 inches and is in English. On the back cover is the blue 911 Targa shown in the image below. Images inside the folder emphasise the four ways to configure the top: 1. removable top off, flexible rear window down, 2. removable top off, flexible rear window up, 3 removable top on, flexible rear window down, and 4 removable top on, flexible rear widow up. Today, "soft window" Targas like this are hard to find and prized for restoration!

33, 34, 35, & 36. This "4 sheet set of 1967 Flyers" covers the 911, 911-S, 912, and Targa models for Model Year 1967. They are undated with no indication of who printed them. They may have been published by Porsche of America Corp.

37. "Pure Pleasure of Driving" is a 12 page all-color brochure covering the 911-T, 911-L, 911-S & 912 Porsches for Model Year 1968, which was the first year of new exhaust emissions regulations in the US. All 1968 Porsches exported to the USA had side marker reflectors, and wheel width increased to 5 1/2 x 15 inches.

Racing Victories, 1967!

38. This "Rennsportjahr 1967" is a single sheet printed only on one side listing important racing victories for 1967. The sheet is not dated, and there is no indication of who published it. It is likely that it was printed in late 1967 or early 1968. The Porsche racing car in the picture above is a Porsche 906!

39. & 40. Two "Porsche Factory Postcards" from 1967, each 4 x 5.8 inches in size with German text. Both were printed in Germany, one shows the Porsche Targa, and the toher shows a Porsche 911-S Coupe.

41. This "1967 Coupe/Targa Brochure" was published in August 1967 and emphasises the NEW Targa v. the Coupe. It covers the 911-T, 911-L, 911-S and 912; and there are versions in English, French and German.

42. This "White Coupe on the Ocean Brochure" is dated September 1967 most likely for Model Year 1968. It features the 911-T, 911-L, 911-S and 912 Porsches and totals 24 pages. The cover has a cut-out, top center, which shows the white coupe on the inside front page. An interesting note inside says the Targa is "available with left hand drive only"! The brochure incorporates many pictures and images from prior brochures, which is common in Porsche sales literature.

43. This early "67 Sportomatic Brochure" covers Porsche's clutch-less automatic transmission. It is hard to tell if this item is a sales brochure for the new Sportomatic transmission, or an Owner's Manual Supplement. Either could be the case. It has 38 pages and covers the new transmission in detail.

44.  The Porsche "Sportomatic Automatic Clutch Transmission" was further covered in the above 4-page folder published in August 1967. It was Porsche's first attempt at providing an automatic transmission "that eliminated the clutch pedal". It had seven settings:  "N" neutral for starting, "D" drive for city driving, "D3" and "D4" two ratios for open road driving, "L" low for steep grades, "R" Reverse, and "P" for Park. It was available only for the 911 and 911-S.

45 & 46. This Porsche "Sportomatic Automatic Clutch Transmission" brochure uses the same images and layout graphics as the prior version except that the text in the brochure has been completely rewritten! This version is dated September 1967 while the prior version was dated August 1967. Reading the text of both brochures reveals no particular reason(s) why the brochure was redone.

47. This "November 1967 Accessory Brochure" shows the factory accessories for Model Year 1968 in four languages:  English, French, German and Italian "per tutti i modelli" (for all models)! The cover is a brown rough cardboard-like paper. The brochure totals 42 pages.

48. Above is a full-line "Porsche Color Chart for 911's and 912's dated 1967 for Model Year 1968", showing the following standard colors:  Slate Grey (6801), Polo Red (6802), Ossi Blue (6803), Light Ivory (6804), Bahama Yellow (6805), Irish Green (6806), Sand (6807), Burgundy Red (6808), and Tangerine (6809).

49. This little "1968 Price List Folder" is dated January 1968 and lists prices for the 911, 911-L, and 912. The 911-L Targa tops the prices in 1968 at $5,650.00US. The 911-S was not offered in the USA in 1968 due to emissions problems.

50. This "Gold Coupe in a Green Field Brochure" contains an interesting combination of images from prior brochures. It totals 28 pages, is all color, and measures 9 x 4 inches. It covers the 911, 911-L and 912 (no 911-S!). Nearly all of the images inside can be found in previous brochures. One of the most interesting is below, compared to a similar picture from a 1966 brochure. Look closely at the differences...............and the similarlities! How did they do this?

911, 911-L & 912 Porsche, Undated 1968!

51. The "Accordian 911/912 Folder" is an interesting rough paper folder that measures 3 x 9 1/4 inches folded up, and 3 x 18 inches unfolded. It is undated and there is no indication of where and by whom it was published. It does mention that Porsche was the winner of the Car & Driver 1967 Readers' Choice Poll for 1967. Given it's size and the fact that it is in English suggests that it was printed in the USA.

Porsche Factory Manufacturers Statement of Origin (MSO), 1968!

52. Ever wonder what a "Birth Document" looks like for a 911 Porsche? Well, a Manufacturer's Statement of Origin (MSO) is the closest thing available. Some would argue that a Kardex is the "real birth document" except most experts say a Kardex is really a warranty record. In any case, the MSO is the document that it is used to obtain a title in the USA. Cars come with an MSO which lists the basic title information, which is then used as the basis to title the car.

911-T-E Porsche Sportomatic, August 1968!

53. The  "911-T 911-E Sportmatic Folder" describes Porsche's clutch-less automatic transmission for Model Year 1969, available only for the 911-T and 911-E. It is a simple 4-page folder published in August 1968 by Porsche Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen.

54. This "Plain Gray Full Line 911-912 Porsche Brochure" covers the full line of Porsches available for Model Year 1969. The cover is almost like gray cardboard, but the inside pages are all slick color. It totals 22 pages and comes in various language versions. The above image is of the French language version from Sonauto, the French Distributor. For whatever reason, this brochure is tough to find and getting up there at auction. If you have a 1969 model Porsche, this brochure would be a nice addition to your documentation for the car.

911-T, 911-E, 911-S & 912 Porsche, September & October 1968!

55. & 56. Above are the "September 1968 Factory Accessories Brochure" and the "October 1968 911/912 Price List", both of which were for Model Year 1969. Recall that Porsche model change-over usually begins in the September prior to the actual Model Year!

 57. This "1968 Spring Edition Distributors & Dealers Listing" totals 20 pages and is approximately 8.5 x 5.5 inches in size. It is in English and is printed in the USA.

58. This "Blue Targa Brochure" is a multi-fold folder measuring 8 1/2 x 4 inches folded up. It covers the 911-T, 911-E, 911-S and 912 for Model Year 1968. It is undated but was published in Germany. It mentions winning Car & Driver's 1968 "Readers' Choice" Poll.

Tourist Delivery Folder, Undated late1968 or early 1969!

59. & 60. These "Tourist Delivery Brochures" cover Porsche's program for tourists who want to order their Porsche and pick it up at the factory. In the 1950's and 1960's, the price savings by picking up a new Porsche from the factory was more than enough to pay for a European vacation. Hence, the continuing popularity of this program. It is not clear why there are two versions of this brochure although one may be for a different model year. The "green version" mentions 1969 models.

911 Porsche Racing, Undated (Est. Late 1968 or Early 1969)!

61. This "Racing: The Ultimate Proof Brochure" is undated and totals 12 pages. It was published by Porsche in late 1968 or early 1969 and describes Porsche's racing activities, and how racing concepts apply to the cars sold to the public. Some current model pictures are shown but without any technical specifications.

62. This "1969 Porsche Racing Brochure" totals 34 pages, is in black and white, and color, ane is approximately 4 x9 inches in size. It is in English and is printed in USA by Porsche+Audi Division.

63. "1969 Porsche Accessories" is a small booklet listing all of the factory accessories available for 1969. Included is the factory air conditioning option which fits along the bottom of the dashboard.

64.  The "1969 Color Chart" is odd because it has a publication date of June 1968, but a sticker has been placed on the back of the brochure suggesting that the color chart was used for the 1969 Model Year.

65. The "Fact Book Brochure" totals 26 pages and was published sometime in 1969. It covers the 911-T, 911-E, 911-S and 912 Porsches. It measures 8 x 5 1/4 inches, and is all color. Many of the images in this brochure are also shown in earler brochures.

66. This "Die Neuen 2.2 Liter Motor Brochure" is undated but was probably published in late 1969 or early 1970 for the models with the new 2.2 Liter motor. The brochure inside is all color, despite its mostly all white cover, and has technical information on the back cover. The brochure was published by VW-Porsche Vertriebsgesellschaft MBH, Stuttgart, in the German language. There may or may not be an English version of this brochure.

67. This "Porsche Color Chart for 1970" does away with the traditional 4-digit color numbers. Also included are colors "only for the 914 and 914-6. A chart inside the folder lists the standard interior-exterior color combinations.

70. This "No Matter which....911 Folder" is huge, measuring 10 1/2 by 14 inches. The cover is black and white as shown above, and the inside pages are one large color picture showing the 911-T, 911-E and 911-S Porsches plus a Targa. The back cover has complete technical specifications. The folder appears to have been printed in Germany for the USA market.

71. & 72. The "Porsche 911 Concept Weltmeister Brochure" is an extra large, all color, deluxe brochure published in Germany sometime in late 1970 by VW-Porsche Vertribsgesellschaft MBH, Stuttgart. It includes a short history of the 356 Porsches, and covers the 911-T, 911-E and 911-S. The cover shows a graphic which represents Porsche's racing world championships in 1969 and 1970.

74. In 1971, Porsche published "Today's Porsche Organization" to explain it's new sales organization, first started in 1969 known as the Porsche+Audi Division.  Karl Ludvigsen, in "Porsche, Excellence Was Expected", described this situation as follows:  "In the last days of January 1969 the plan was announced in both countries. In Germany, VW and Porsche would found a new company, owned by both, to sell sports cars made by both firms. In the United States, Porsche would give up the distribution rights for its own cars to Volkswagen, which would establish a new Porsche+Audo Division to sell both those makes in the U.S."

75. This "Porsche, a Love Story" was probably published in 1970 as it deals with the 2.2 liter motors for the 911-T, 911-E and 911-S rated at 142hp, 175hp, and 200hp SAE. Unlike prior brochures, it has a semi-slick cover and lower quality paper inside. The brochure was printed in the USA possibly by Porsche of America Corp.

76. This "1971 Porsche T, E & S Folder" totals 4 pages and is approximately 8.5 x 12 inches in size. The text in this example is in Dutch (there are versions in French, German, English and Italian as well). Folder was printed in Germany.

81. Above is a "1971 VW-Porsche Factory Accessories Brochure" which totals 20 pages of black & white images and text, and is approximately  4 x 6.5 inchs in size. The test is in German, English, French and Italian and it was published in Germany by VW Porsche. Included are accessories for the 914 and 914-6.

83. This is another "1971 Color Chart" in the form of a folder approximately 4 x 6.5 inchs in size. Text is in German, English, French and Italian and it was printed in Germany.

84. The above "1971 Porsche Colors" show available colors for the Porsche 911 series cars and the Porsche 914. The images are of pages from a flat spiral bound manual in which a clear see-through black and white line image of a 911 or 914 could be superimposed over a desired color to see what the combination looked like. The car images were spiral bound at the top, and the colors were spiral bound on the left side making this a handy dealer booklet to show to potential buyers. Porsche used a similar spiral bound manual for colors for Porsche 356-C's.
