06/10/02 - Junior (Under 18) Inter Towns played at Redbridge (Reporter Steve Long)

    Division 1 - Portsmouth A 8 v Southampton B 2

David Woodacre 2, Callum Shipp 2, Lee Mullett 2, Heather George 0

    David & Callum 1, Heather & David 1, Heather & Callum 0

Pompy plain sailing in their opening match of the season with the boys all winning their singles. David and Heather combined well to win a mixed doubles but Heather and Callum only just missed out in their mixed doubles, going down 9 - 11 in the 5th end. The boy’s doubles was won comfortably by Callum and David.

    Division 1 - Portsmouth A 5 v Southampton A 5

David Woodacre 1, Callum Shipp 1, Lee Mullett 2, Heather George 0

    David & Callum 1, Heather & David 0, Heather & Lee 0

A match that Portsmouth needed to win if they intend to be clear runners up to the powerful Bournemouth A side. Southampton fielded the Hampshire No 1 boy and girl (who played as a boy on the day). A close and exciting game was on the cards which proved to be the case as the score sheet suggests. Glenn Willshere was the star for Southampton beating Callum 3 - 0 and David 11 - 9 in the 5th with every end going the full distance. David and Callum winning the boys doubles in another marathon 11 - 9 in the 5th. Lee remained unbeaten on the day winning all his singles.

    Division 2 - Portsmouth B 9 v Andover A 1

Mike Gibbs 2, Connor Shipp 1, Lee Wilson 2, Trish Spiers 1

    Mike & Trish 1, Mike & Connor 1, Lee & Trish 1

A very strong Portsmouth B side who should be looking to win this division. The only blemish being the first game where Connor lost to Jonathan Wright. Mike had a bit of a scare also against Jonathan being 9 - 4 down in the 5th before winning 11 - 9. Trish played very well in the important mixed doubles and remained undefeated in all.

    Division 2 - Portsmouth B 10 v Andover B 0

Mike Gibbs 2, Connor Shipp 2, Lee Wilson 2, Trish Spiers 1

    Mike & Trish 1, Mike & Connor 1, Connor & Trish 1

A whitewash as Pompy power on. Only 1 game requiring an extra end as all matches were won 3- 0. Again Trish proving to be a star in the mixed doubles.

15/09/02 - Cadet (Under 15) Inter Towns played at Redbridge (Reporter Steve Long)

    Portsmouth A 10 v Bournemouth 0

Mike Gibbs 3, Connor Shipp 3, William George 3, Doubles 1

Pompy power to a historic whitewash over the usually all conquering Bournemouth side. It has to be said they were without some of their best players who were involved in a tournament at Cippenham. Still a great start to the day none the less. The lads performing faultlessly as only 1 game required the deciding 5th set. Both William and Connor still have another year at this age group.

    Portsmouth A 10 v Basingstoke 0

Mike Gibbs 3, Connor Shipp 3, William George 3, Doubles 1

The tidal wave continues in the second match in even more emphatic fashion as all games were won 3 - 0. A notable improvement by William in particular when he gained revenge over Sue Thompsett, a player he lost to only a few months before in the same competition.

    Portsmouth A 10 v Portsmouth B 0

Mike Gibbs 3, Connor Shipp 3, William George 3, Doubles 1

The A side were in no mood for showing thier B colleagues any favours in yet another whitewash. The only close game was Rob Scribbins giving Connor a bit of a scare before losing 9 - 11 in the 5th game.close. They now have a very good chance of winning this division.

    Portsmouth B 5 v Southampton B 5

Scott Tucker 2, Danny Wyatt 2, Rob Scribbins 0, Doubles 1

As the score line suggests a very close and exciting match with several games going to the 5th and deciding set. Scott and Danny teaming up well to win the all-important doubles. A very good result for the B side against a strong all round Southampton side. Especially considering Danny and Rob have not attended many training sessions recently due to commitments to other sports. Danny being the Hampshire No. 1 tennis player for his age. For Southampton Greg Jones won all 3, Sophie Willsher and Jo Dunkason 1 each.

    Portsmouth B 1 v Southampton A 9

Scott Tucker 0, Danny Wyatt 1, Rob Scribbins 0, Doubles 0

The score line a little flattering here as 4 games were settled in the 5th set. Southampton had the county No. 10 John Mc Beath who was made to work very hard for his 3 wins. His brother David also won 3 and Alistair Jones won 2. Danny and Rob should be particularly pleased with their own performances as they were steadily improving as the day went on.
