Bat Out of Hell (Revamped)

This is not strictly speaking a compilation album but I have included it in this list because it contains one extra track than the original: 'Dead Ringer for Love' from the album 'Deadringer'. This is a rerelease 'revamp' of 'Bat Out of Hell' put out in 1993 by, yes, you've guessed, Sony Music. I think maybe Sony were a little upset at not getting the opportunity to release 'Bat Out of Hell II: Back Into Hell' so they released all they could in the way of compilations from the three albums released by Epic Records who they took over.

  1. Bat out of hell
  2. You took the words right out of my mouth
  3. Heaven can wait
  4. All revved up and no place to go
  5. Two out of three ain't bad
  6. Paradise by the dashboard light
  7. For crying out loud
  8. Deadringer for love

It has a booklet sleeve with an interesting biography and a review of each song (in French) printed over some interesting artwork.

Back From Hell Again: The Very Best of Meat Loaf (Vol 2)

Another Sony Music compilation released in Germany in 1994. It contains an interesting mix of songs from all 5 main albums released up to 1993. It also has 3 tracks sung by Jim Steinman from his album 'Bad for Good'. But there are 2 very interesting tracks which are not easily found elsewhere: Heroes is a song recorded for the Los Angeles Paralympic Games in 1987 and features Brian May from The Queen on guitar; the song was actually called 'A Time for Heroes'. The final track 'Eddie's Teddy' is from Roxy Cast version of 'The Rocky Horror Show'. Meat Loaf not only played Eddie in this version but also Eddie's uncle Dr Scott. 'Eddie's Teddy' was performed by Dr Scott in this version.

The Collection

Not to be confused with the 1993 release Meat Loaf: The Collection. This compilation was released by BMG in 1994 and has a mix of live and studio tracks. The live tracks are from the old favourites from the 1987 Wembley shows. Most of the other tracks have been taken from the two albums 'Bad Attutide' and 'Blind Before I Stop'. One interesting track is the final one on this album 'Stand by me' which appears on the reverse of the 12" vinyl versions of the single 'Nowhere Fast'. A single with the song 'Clap your hands and stamp your feet' and this song was made in 1973 and may or may not have been released in 1975 on the Ode label. Different reports tell different stories; some say that it was released and withdrawn others that it was never released at all. In my view it is worth getting this compilation just to hear this one song.

  1. Rock 'n' Roll Hero
  2. Nowhere Fast
  3. Piece Of The Action
  4. Bat Out Of Hell (live)
  5. Don't Leave Your Mark On Me

If you want to get a Meat Loaf live album this is the ultimate. Released in November 1996 by Tommy Boy only in the US. This album has everything with great packaging and pictures taken mostly from the recent 'Born to Rock Tour'. It is a 2 picture CD set (the pictures on the CDs are particularly special - one with Meat and one with Meat and Patti dancing) and has a booklet with more concert pictures and a description of where each song was recorded, all recent concerts and mostly in the US, though 4 were recorded in Europe). This one is not to be missed. However, it is a limited edition and there aren't that many to be had.
