I was born and raised in Newark, New Jersey, then attended Carnegie-Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Most of my life has been lived in the cities. My artistic inspirations, however come from my experiences away from the city. They come from hiking in the woods, in  areas unspoiled by human hands, far from the sounds and smells of urbanization. One of my favorite places to hike is Cook Forest in Northwestern Pennsylvania--one of the largest virgin forests east of the Mississippi River. After walking many of its trails, under the canopy of ancient hemlock, I understand why the area is callled "The Magic Forest."

Many of the images on this website are scenes along the paths of Cook Forest: from the tops of its mountains, or alongside its waterways. Other woodland trails in Western Pennsylvania, West Virginia and the Shenandoah Valley in Virginia have also inspired images shown here. The forests of the Eastern United States are magical places for me, filled with mystery, providing a sense of awe.

There is magic, too, in the printmaking process. Through the interaction of metal, ink, press and paper a transformation takes place. This magic is manifest as you remove your paper from the plate. No matter how much planning went into the design, the resultant print is always a surprise. It is like hiking the trails. You never know what is around the bend or behind the hills.
