CONSUMERS AGAINST INVASION OF PRIVACY
CALL FOR A WORLDWIDE BOYCOTT OF ANY MEDIA PUBLISHING OR BROADCASTING PHOTOGRAPHS OR VIDEO OF: The inside or outside of Princess Diana and Dodi Fayeds car during the paparazzi chase that led up to the crash of the car in Paris on August 31, 1997; or of the inside of the car after the fatal crash. Due to the reprehensible actions of the paparazzi whose pursuit may have caused or contributed to the accident, we, as concerned consumers, have a moral responsibility to make our voices heard and demonstrate our revulsion toward such ruthless media tactics by not patronizing publications and news media that exploit such tragic events, especially if members of the media, freelance or otherwise, are in some way responsible for creating these events. Necessary steps should be taken to prevent future events from occurring, including proposal of legislation to address: 1) harassment of individuals by media; and 2) invasion of privacy by media. If you have knowledge of specific exisiting or proposed laws please share your information with us. It is time for consumers to draw a line in the sand and say, Enough is enough! Responsibility starts here. If we do not buy the tabloids that publish photos that invade an individuals privacy, even if that individual is famous, then there will be no demand for such photos at all-cost. Some publications are not willing to set ethical standards, but they will respond to economic pressures from consumers. There must be some degree of restraint and respect for private lives, even for those in the public spotlight.
