- Martindale's: Chemistry
- This Web site has a four star rating from Megellen and it is among the top
5% most visited Web sites. Not shabby for an undergraduate and graduate
Chhemistry Center. MSDS sheets, reports, chemicals, databases of every major
discipline in Chemistry are available. Course materials are found here so
Teachers will be interested. Check it out!!
- History of Elements
- Need some reference material on the history of an element? Then you have
come to the right Web site. This site is maintained by those jolly fellows
from Los Alamos (watch out for the fallout!!). The periodic table hyperlinked
gives you one or two paragraphs on each element. The National Labs have other
interesting things here so do yourself a favor and explore it!!
- Properties of elements
- An impressive periodic table completely hyper linked will greet you as you
enter this site. Click on an element's symbol and you have a brief list of the
common properties for that element.
- NMR Periodic Table
- If you are looking for NMR reference materials including frequency and
magnetic strength constants for the elements, then this site will answer your
questions in spades!
- Chronology of the Element
- Want to know more about where an element was discovered? This site gives a
paragraph or two on each element. A good source for a Chemistry assignment.

- This site is one of my own options accessable through my personal home
page which includes a hictory and properties of each element represented.

- Use of HyperText in Education
- A very useful paper on how to use HTML files to convey topics in various
disciplines.
- FTP files on Chemical Education
- These are files that can be downloaded involving Chemistry resorce
materials that can be used for classrooms.

- This is a paper presented on how teaching can be done on the InterNet
through e-mail contacts, Newgroups, mailing lists, and Web site visits. Real

- This site contains an extremely useful on-line tutorial on how to create
these Web pages. I used this tutorial to get started in the summer 1995 that
led to my own personal Home Page.

- Besides the Web sites which have Chemistry resources, this site's major
contribution is a Hyperlinked Index of Departments of Chemistry world wide. A
very impressive Hyperlinked Index containing literally hundreds of Web sites.

- This is an example of the use of the Web for the peper abstracts and

- This is a site that gives access to Chemistry files stored on the Simon
Fraiser University server. All the files are downloadable for use in
classrooms or for the teachers professional development.

- This is a Chemical Abstracts Service with a four star rating.
- WebChemistry
- This is the most complete, aesthetically pleasing, and most useful
collection of Web resources for Chemistry that I have seen. Rated among the
top 5% of the Web sites.
- World Lecture Hall- Chemistry
- This section of the World Lecture Hall has examples of on-line materials
used in several courses that dissiminate their material on-line. This is a
good source for course outlines and the constructivist approach is promoted.
- Physical Chemistry Practice

- This is a good source of homework and exam questions.
- NMR Educational Software
- For those that like the technical aspects of NMR and ESR techniques this
is the site for them. This site is not for the timid. Only those that are
turned on by J coupling constants will get a chill from this site.

- This site has a rich source of Chemical Resources very valuable to
Chemistry teachers. Too much to explain here. A Chemistry teacher will just
have to explore for themselves. Isn't the Web fun?

- This site has many multi-media files that are downloadable. Basics of
Quantum Mechanics, atomic orbitals, molecular orbitals, states of matter,

- Cystallographers, rejoice!! This site is made for thee. Upcoming
conferences, reports of pst conferences, databases of crystallographic
research, and much more to delight even the most discrimminating of crystal
freaks.
- Chemical Education Division of ACS
- This site has a great document on Exams and assessment of the student's
ability to solve multi-faceted problems in Chemistry. A section on the use of
Co-operative Learning techniques in Chemistry is available here. Other
InterNet Chemistry projects are accessable at this site.

- Need a Chemistry Text? Here is a wealth of them. Includes books on the
History of Chemistry.
- Chem On-line Presentations, Talks and Workshops
- This is a dynamic listing of Presentations and Workshops on Chemistry
topics that have been placed at a Web site for people to review.
- Mac Software
- This is an ftp site of downloadable Mac Software for Chemistry. OK Mac
people, don't say I didn't give you anything!!
- Hazardous Chemical Database
- This is a searchable database of Hazardous Chemicals. Good for when OSHA
comes calling to your department.
- General Organic and Biochemistry
- This is an on-line version of a popular college Chemistry Text. It
includes slides, outlines, and best of all on-line practice exams. This is a
must see by Chemistry instructors. A look into the future of textbook
publications on-line.
- The Organic Laboratory
- This is a section of 12 Organic Lab Experiments complete with digital
photos. Extraction, Melting Point Determination, Distribution Coefficients,
and several synthesis are included. A great example of on-line Organic Lab.
- The Virtual Classroom List
- This site has a list of on-line courses and lab courses with on-line
experiments. Truly this is as close to a virtual classroom as you will get on
the Web.
- Global Instructional Chemistry
- This site allows you to interact with molecular structures on the screen
with the help of some applications. It also has some searchable databases of
Lycos and Megellan at the end of the page.
- Atomic Theory and Atomic Orbital
Displays
- This site allows you to view and to download atomic orbitals as JPEG
formatted graphics. There are some very useful links to a CD-ROM source where
a tutorial on atomic orbitals could be very beneficial to the students of a
Chemistry class.
- Chemist's Art Gallery
- A well stocked art gallery for the Chemistry teacher. Specializes in
Biochemistry and Physical Chemistry.
- OSU Department of Chemistry
- This site from Oklahoma State University contains some Chemistry courses
that have been placed on-line. General Chemistry and Organic Chemistry are
illustrated. Good examples of how to dissiminate course material on-line and
save paper costs!!
- ChemSource
- ChemSource is a collection of self contained single concept modules
complete with the experimantal activities to illustrate the concept. There are
only two hyper linked modules available at this site, acids/bases, and
chemical bonding, but others will undoubtedly follow. The two modules that are
available are quite impressive and very complete.
- Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
in Chemistry
- This is one of the sites that the author of this presentation maintains at
my Home Page complex. It is included as an example of how Chemical concepts
can be dissiminated on-line for students or just plain old surfers of the Net.
- Web Construction For Novices
- This is the table of contents of a series of pages that summarize some of
the basics of Web Page construction using HyperText Markup Language (HTML).
This is another example of the educational value that the Web sites offer to
students and teachers alike.
- Basic Math Concepts -Table Of
Contents
- Another example of how learning can be enhanced on-line in the World Wide
Web. This is the table of contents of a series of short lessons on Basic Math
concepts important to Chemistry students. I refer my students to this site if
they have trouble understanding what is covered in the first week of class.
- General Chemistry Notes-1
- This site is under very heavy construction so only about two options are
available, but it is being worked upon so be patient and it will happen. Again
this is an example of how concepts in a Chemistry class can be stored for any
students in class to review. Its like having a set of virtual cyberspace notes
for the class at your very fingertips!!
- Searchable Databases
- This is a part of my Web Page complex that allows a search on virtually
any topic under the sun. Some of these databases are quite good and very fast.
I always recommend to a student to search first before surfing the Net. It is
the best use of time and effort. Most lists that are generated by a search are
hyperlinked.
- Outline for 2YC3 Conference
Presentation
- This is an online hyper linked version of an outline on a presentation
that will be given by this author in March at New Orleans. The assignment has
broadened the perspectives of the Chemistry students considerable and helped
to usher them into the Twenty-First Century and cyberspace research.
