The CHM 1411 course will deal with the following topics:
The new drop procedure is covered in the Class attendance of the catalog and reads: Students are expected to attend regularly all classes in which they are enrolled. Students have the responsibility to attend class and to consult with the instructor when an absence occurs. If a student is unable to complete a course in which they are registered, it is the student's responsibility to withdraw from the course by the appropriate date Thursday, April 8, (See Campus Calandar with a "W" grade. If the student does not withdraw on or before that date, they will receive a performance grade, usually a grade of "F". Withdrawing from a course is a formal procedure which you must initiate. I cannot do it for you. Failure to do this will result in a grade usually of "F". If a student is unable to complete all of the required work for a course, they have the option with the instructor's concurrence to petition for an Incomplete grade. This is a contractual grade, which must be approved by the Division administrator, and where the conditions for the "I" grade to be removed is specified within the contract. Should the student fail to fulfill the contractual obligations within a 90 day period, the contract is declared null and void, and the student will receive the performance they would have received prior to the Incomplete grade.
Extra Credit points may be earned for each exam in the form of Take Home Quiz assignment or Pre Test. The student has the choice of taking an on-line the Take Home quiz in order to receive extra credit points that will be added to the exam result. The Take Home Quizes will be similar to the exams.
Those who would like to improve a previous exam grade will be eligible for a make-up exam one week before the final exam date. The make-up exam will be given in the Testing Center (Bldg A). The make-up exam will be cover all material covered on the one hour exam that was your lowest score. The grade made on the make-up will constitute your grade for the exam in the gradebook unless the grade is lower than your lowest exam grade. It is necessary to sign up with the instructor before taking the make-up exam indicating your name and exam that was your lowest score.
Grading Policy:

For those that have access to a PC computer equipped with a modem or connected to a network and are subscribers to a telecommunication services that has Internet connections, you may contact this instructor using the following e-mail address:
I do require each student to establish e-mail contact with the above address by the following procedure:
Go To the following menus:Tools -----> Personal Information----> Change Password
Make sure that you repeat the password for verification and be sure that you click on the Submit button at the bottom of the page to finalize the change. Put your password in a safe place so you can refer to it should you forget it. Remember that the password you select is case sensitive meaning that if you use Capital letters than they have to be Capitals when you use it. I would suggest that all letters be lower case (small).
Once logged on in the above manner you proceed through the menus as follows:
It is important that you do establish e-mail connections in the above manner. Then I will be able to send private e-mail to each individual student through the NLC office address (RHL7460@dcccd.edu )
I do maintain an extensive Web site for my General Chemistry and Organic Chemistry students. This Web site is at the following location: http://members.aol.com/profchm/genchm1.html
A schedule of class activities indicating what Chapter will be covered and how much time will be devoted to each Chapter will be found at the ecampus Web site under General Chemistry II. In addition, the Web site has examples of the problems similar to those covered in the class.
In accordance with the "Americans with Disabilities Act" and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, any student who feels that he or she may need special assistance or accommodation because of an impairment or disabling condition needs to contact the Disability Services Office at (972) 273-3165 or Room A-438 at North Lake College. It is the policy of NLC to provide reasonable accommodations as required to afford equal educational opportunity. It is the student's responsibility to contact the Disability Services Office.
North Lake College will provide reasonable accommodations for qualified individuals who are students with disabilities. Because of legal implications, it is imperative that all students requesting academic accommodations first notify and provide appropriate documentation of their disabling condition to the Disability Services Office.
