Phillip Rukavina - Biography
Phillip Rukavina (theorbo, archlute, cittern, lutes, vihuela
da mano), is a native of St. Paul, Minnesota. he studied lute and early
performance practice with Patrick O'Brien at Sarah Lawrence College in New
York City, and with Hopkinson Smith at the Academie Musicale in Villecroze,
France and in Basel, Switzerland through a grant supplied by the Jerome Foundation.
Phil is a founding member of Minstrelsy!, with several
compact discs on the Lyrichord Early Music Series label. Phil is also a
founding member of Ensemble 392, which specializes in music of the French
Baroque era, and MiLQ (the Minnesota Lute Quartet). Phillip has performed
with the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, the Lyra Concert Baroque orchestra,
the historical theater ensemble Ex Machina, and with Diverse Passions based
in Denver, Colorado. He supplied the solo incidental music for the audio
release of The Last Unicorn, read by the author Peter Beagle (1994), and
music to accompany a recording of Minnesota author/poet Robert Bly (1994).
Phil has served on the Board of the Lute Society of America
and was the general editor of the LSA's Quarterly magazine from 1992 until
1995.
