On May 12, we answered the phones at WYBE (along with our friends from the Philadelphia Science Fiction Society). Thanks to the following for helping out: Karen Baldwin, Tom Beck, Bruce Bloom, Vivian Carlson Steve Cluck, Duck, Jeff Eng, Shelly Handen, and Rita Humphrey. The station raised over $4,500 during the Doctor Who marathon that evening. Their next round of Doctor Who fundraising will take place at the end of this year. More information as it comes.

About

Background

WYBE is a member-supported, independent, public television station broadcasting to the entire Greater Philadelphia region. Since June 10, 1990, WYBE has served the region by providing public television with a difference. WYBE is licensed to Independence Public Media of Philadelphia, Inc., a Pennsylvania non-profit corporation whose principle activity is operating WYBE. Over the years, WYBE has grown in every way possible; from increasing its local programming initiatives, ito increasing its audiencee and its broadcast day. Currently, WYBE broadcasts seven days a week from 6am to midnight.

Mission

WYBE strives to strengthen the sense of shared community among individuals of diverse backgrounds and cultures by providing a public communications connection.

Key Principles

WYBE seeks to use television as an active medium to promotepositive social change.

WYBE seeks to acquire and produce programs that reflect a perspective which is multi-cultural, community oriented, and/or global/international.

WYBE seeks to provide public communications which: depict the interests, history, art and culture of a multicultural audience, are meaningful, entertaining, innovative and educational, reach across gender, class, age, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity and economic background.

WYBE is a member of the community it serves, and therefore seeks to reflect this in its governing bodies, staffing, outreach and other activities.

Directions to WYBE:

Take Rt. 76 West (Schuylkill Expressway) toward Valley Forge. Take exit 31 (Belmont Avenue/Green Lane) for Manayunk & Roxborough. Turn right off exit ramp onto Green Lane (cross Main Street, Manayunk intersection). Continue straight on Green Lane uphill to light at Ridge Avenue. Make a left at the intersection of Ridge Avenue & Green Lane. Continue straight on Ridge Avenue until you reach 8200 Ridge Avenue.

Take Rt. 76 East (Schuylkill Expressway) toward Philadelphia. Take exit 31 (Belmont Avenue/Green Lane) for Manayunk & Roxborough. Turn left off exit ramp onto Green Lane (cross Main Street, Manayunk intersection). Continue straight on Green Lane uphill to light at Ridge Avenue. Make a left at the intersection of Ridge Avenue & Green Lane. Continue straight on Ridge Avenue until you reach 8200 Ridge Avenue.

Take NJ Turnpike South to Exit 6 (PA Turnpike). Follow PA Turnpike West to Exit 25 (Rt. 76 East/Philadelphia). Take exit 31 (Belmont Avenue/Green Lane) for Manayunk & Roxborough. Turn right off exit ramp onto Green Lane (cross Main Street, Manayunk intersection). Continue straight on Green Lane uphill to light at Ridge Avenue. Make a left at the intersection of Ridge Avenue & Green Lane. Continue straight on Ridge Avenue until you reach 8200 Ridge Avenue.

Take Route 70 West to Philadelphia. Cross Ben Franklin Bridge. Take Rt. 676 to Rt. 76 West. Follow Rt. 76 West to Exit 31 (Belmont Avenue/Green Lane) for Manayunk & Roxborough. Turn right off exit ramp onto Green Lane (cross Main Street, Manayunk intersection). Continue straight on Green Lane uphill to light at Ridge Avenue. Make a left at the intersection of Ridge Avenue & Green Lane. Continue straight on Ridge Avenue until you reach 8200 Ridge Avenue.

Parking is available in the lot to the right of the building.
