William came to America at the age of twelve with his mother.  According to other sources I haven't been able to verify, there were seven other children with them.  So far I only know of the names of three others:  Jacob F. Dittus b. Jan 1832, Frederick Dittus b.c. 1844, and Katharina Dittus Hutt b. 1830.  These five family members all lived in Kankakee Co. between what is now known as the towns of Herscher and Union.  Does any one know who the other siblings may be?  Did they all go to Illinois or did some stay in NY?

I too am just starting to research my husbands family name. His Grandfather was John Rittenhouse Dittus. I think he was married twice. His first wife passed when the youngest was just about 2. He had 3 children. 1son and 2 daughters. I dont know much before that. Maybe if you can share some of the info you receive and If I get any I will share with you.
