Membership

Membership is open to all health professionals interested in the purposes and activities of this society. There are three categories of membership:

  1. Active membership

  2. Sustaining membership

  3. Honorary Membership

 

Qualified persons from any country of the world can apply for one of the above mentioned first two categories at any time a year (no deadline). Letters of acceptance or denial will be sent to applicants after careful reviewing of the application forms.

Benefits of membership:

  • Close contact and communication with like-minded scientists from different regions of the world, all interested in prevention of tobacco induced diseases.

  • Continuous learning about the scientific and social problems associated with tobacco induced diseases in variety of countries.

  • The privilege of attending annual meetings, special workshops or educational courses offered by the Society at reduced member fees.

  • Subscription to the Society's publications at reduced member fees.

  • Priority notice of special meetings, workshops or educational courses of the Society.

  • Receipt of the PTID-Newsletters and other important announcements.

  • The facilitation of informal scientific exchange with leading researchers in the field of tobacco induced diseases.

 

To become an active member:  

  • an applicant must hold an earned academic degree (Bachelor, Masters, or Doctorate) from an accredited University or College in any medical, biomedical, biological, chemical, social or psychological sciences, or law. For examples of major areas of studies click on Sections from the main menu.

  • an applicant must be actively involved, or at least enthusiastically interested, in clinical application, non-industrial research, or teaching of biomedical procedures, or law-practice, that leads to prevention OR to an enhanced scientific knowledge on prevention of tobacco abuse, tobacco addition, or any other tobacco-induced and/or –worsened diseases of humans.

  • an applicant MUST NOT be affiliated, directly or indirectly, with any company, organization, or group that produces, distributes, sales, or promotes tobacco or tobacco-derived product(s). To be sure you comply with all conditions required, please carefully read Article 3a of the bylaws (click here on Bylaws).

 

To become a Sustaining Member:

  • eligible are schools, colleges, universities, research facilities, clinics, hospitals, health foundations, medical societies, publishers, nonsmoking initiatives, health insurance companies, or non-tobacco companies, which are interested in purposes and activities of the Society and wish to support the Society’s activities through considerable annual financial contributions. Such charitable contributions are tax-deductable in most countries.

  • Applicants MUST NOT be affiliated, directly or indirectly, with any company, organization, or group that produces, distributes, sales, or promotes tobacco or tobacco-derived product(s) by any means. To be sure your group or organization comply with all conditions required, please carefully read Article 3b-ii of the bylaws (click here on Bylaws).

 

Membership Fee:

All fees are charged in European currency, Euro (€). One Euro is equal to (or less than) one US Dollar.

Applicants from low-income countries (some African, Asian or Eastern European countries) may apply for reduced membership fee. The final decision shall depend on the geographical location and its internationally known critical economical condition only.

Annual membership fee (refundable minus bank charges if membership denied)  € 50

Under the Internal Revenue Service guidlines of most countries, the amount of your annual dues payment is a tax-deductible charitable contribution.

To apply for membership, please click on an appropriate icon below, print the application form, carefully read and fill it out, sign and mail it along with your payment to the Society's address. Applications that are not signed, not fully completed, mechanically modified, and/or do not include the payment will NOT be processed. Applications sent through e-mail or fax will NOT be processed.
