If you are lucky enough to adopt a lundehund, please consider joining the ongoing Intestinal Syndrome Study now. The Norwegian Lundehund Club of America (NLCOA) are working with Texas A&M University to gather blood and fecal samples from Lundies of all ages, and on a regular basis (about once every 6 months). Hopefully, they can find a cure with all of our help. Participation is free and easy. At the dog's next visit(s) to the vet for immunizations, well-dog check-ups, etc., the vet can get a small sample of blood. The "other" sample you can get in the backyard. Just contact the NLCOA, for the special sample bags, directions on proper labelling, and mailing procedures. Thank you. And good luck with your lundehunds!

Lundehunds are such amazing dogs! We originally got Bebby from friends who were moving away and needed to get rid of their puppy, whom they purchased on impulse. Bebby was initially shy, having been born in a puppy mill or worse. However, we managed to socialize and train her so well that she soon became the envy of the neighborhood! I recommend the lundehund to anyone who wants the perfect dog! Reba, our red and white pup, is so sweet, and so adorable! Whenever I take her to the dog park, newcomers always want to know what breed she is. Many have asked me about breeders. The kids love her, and even the cat finds her interesting! Of course, Millie (our cat) being allowed onto our beds and Reba having to stay on the floor (in theory...) puts the cat at a much better advantage if Reba ever gets carried away! I first heard about lundehunds at a dinner party, because one of my fellow guests had just returned from visiting her parents in sweden, and the neighbors had a lundehund. I went to look up the breed, and was I ever glad I did! Eight months later, we had Reba!

I have been intensively studying different breeds of dogs since December of 1999 in the search of a dog for myself. Just tonight I was at Yahoo Pets online answering questions to suggest different breeds to me. When it popped up with Norwegian Lundehund as a possibility I was pleasently curious as I had never seen this breed before in any of the numerous webs sites or the different dog breed books I have purchased over the last four years and a couple of them showing some non-AKC registered breeds. I have started to read through this site and I am very interested as to how someone might find a breeder to buy one of these rare little treasures. I am a Norwegian living in South africa and have searched for a breed of dog to tie me back to my home country. Age 48 - been here 22years and it seems I will remain here. I have been involved in dogshowing for the last 16 years, first with bearded collies and then with norfolk terriers, but my dream has always been to have a dog connecting me with Norway. Lynn Bell has just been over and judged there and here suggestion was a lundehund. She said they fascinated her. And from what I have been reading on the net - it spellbinds me. I work at a 24 hr. vetrinary hospital. We have regular, emergancy,and specialists appointments every day. We have a breeder in the area who brings her dogs to us. I fell in love with the breed. Thank you all who are keeping this breed alive. It's not easy considering the genitic history. Please be careful to whom you do sell the pups to, and they should be very expensive! If you can't afford the price of the pup, than how can you afford any emergancies or down the road health problems. I know I sound harsh, but I care, alot. I first discovered Lundehunds when exploring online to try to match a type of dog that would be good for me. Really My 2 cats would not want me to have any dog, and my yard is not ready for any either, but I like critters and thought it would be nice to have a walking partner, or at least fantasize about it. I think I pretty much like everything about Lundehunds, except that they might be hard to potty train, but I've never actually met one yet. I thought the dog looked interesting at first sight of the picture, and it has only gotten more interesting as i learn more. The first thing I got really excited about was that they are Norwegian, and I am more Norwegian than anything else in terms of ancestry. My dad was born in Norway. I was also fascinaed by the lundehund's unique abilities and anatomy. Even before hearing about them i was introduced to the idea of search and rescue dogs being used to locate people lost in caves, which i would like to help train dogs for. I wonder how Lundehunds would be at that, but I don't know if these guys would be too scared of strangers or something. If i ever get lots of money and stuff I might like to help breed lundies. Then again, I alwasy get curious about tampering with nature and making crosses and stuff, which is probably not recomended by those who want to preserve the breed, so if anybody has an accidental mixed lundy, I would be interested. Did I read that the first Lundy in the USA was in Texas in 86 or so? I was in Austin at that time, but we moved in 87. I would really like to meet a lundy in person, and eventually have one or more in my family.

Sly was my best friend from some-when during my sophomore/junior year of highschool until July 2000, when he passed away. I miss him and hope to locate a good place to find another Lunde-friend around Thanksgiving/Christmas. Your website looks great, by the way.
