Jack-O-Lantern

Take one of those huge orange leaf bags they sell, than cut a hole in the closed end and draped it over a wheelchair chair (with person in the chair). If needed you can stuff the Jack-O-Lantern with newspapers. You could wear a green hat to complete the outfit.

Thanks DowBubbles!

Whistlers Mother

Wear a black or blue dress, any dark color will do though. Wear a bonnet and white collar. If you dont have a bonnet, perhaps you could make one from paper. You should wear a long dress. It would help if it were old fashioned. You may be able to pick one up at a thrift shop or yard sale. You may want to have a name tag that say's "Whistlers Mother" for the people unfamiliar with the painting. This is quick & easy. The chair is a natural.

Skier

This is almost too easy to do but is a lot of fun. Wrap one foot up in an ace bandage or white cloth. Wear a ski cap & scarf. Attach 2 skies to the back of your wheel chair in an "x" pattern.

Shower

This is perhaps the funniest costume. Use coat hangers and piece of 1" by 4" wood about 5 to 6 feet long and a shower curtain. Fasten the wood to the back of your chair. At the top of the wood make a 3 foot circle out of stiff wire or old coat hangers. Attach the shower curtain to the wire before you finish the loop. Arrange the curtain so that it covers your sides but not your front. Wear a bathrobe & shower cap and carry a brush. If you can find an old shower head to attach it to the top of the curtain, it will add a nice touch.

Santa Claus

You guessed it your going to need a Santa Claus suit for this or you can use red pajamas or red sweats. Some people already have a Santa Claus costume in the house that they use for Christmas. Where a white wig and beard with a red hat. Be sure to carry around a long list of paper with friend's names written on it. Use a pillow for tummy stuffing. The chair is a natural because Santa sits down to read his list.

King Neptune

Convert your wheel chair into a throne, by wrapping the back, seat and arm rests with gold foil or paper. You can even use tinfoil from the kitchen. If you want, wrap the handrails and/or spokes with gold tape. Glue on some plastic fish and seashells found at a & 10. Then you can take a royal outfit and transform yourself into a ruling monarch. Wear a blue or red velvet cape (or similar material) cape with a fake fur collar. If you want you could use blue or green face makeup. Purchase a plastic crown at a department store and decorate with candy fish.

Queen

Convert your wheel chair into a throne, by wrapping the back, seat and arm rests with gold foil or paper. You can even use tinfoil from the kitchen. If you want, wrap the handrails and/or spokes with gold tape. Glue on some plastic gems found at a craft's store. Then you can take a royal outfit and transform yourself into a ruling monarch. Wear a blue or red velvet dress (or similar material) with a fake fur collar. Purchase a plastic crown at a department store. If a friend wants to participate, have them dress up as a "king" or they could be a court jester.

Christmas Present

Use a large cardboard box with the bottom cut out and room to put your head though. Before decorating try the box out for size to make sure it fits. If the fit is good, decorate the box with Christmas paper. Add a big bow. Attach the box to the back of the chair. Be sure that the person inside has room to turn the wheels.

Army Tank

Use a large cardboard box with the bottom cut out and room to put your arms & head through. Simply put a box with the bottom cut out, over the child and chair with plenty of room. Paint the box olive green with camouflage colors added. Write "USA" in yellow. Buy an inexpensive army helmet to wear with your head & arms sticking out of the box.

R2D2 - Starwars

Put box or part cloth/part cardboard over your head, cut armholes, big enough to fit over a good part of chair. Paint silver with letters "R2D2". The wheels being lower to the ground are part of the costume.

Dice

Use a large cardboard box with the bottom cut out and room to put your head though. Put the box over the person and chair with plenty of room. Attach with duct tape. Paint the box black with white dots. The box can also be red with white dots. Be sure the box fits before painting it.

Ventriloquist

You will need a ventriloquists doll, a real one if you can find it. If you dont have a real one any doll will do really. Prop the doll in your lap with your hand behind the head. You may even want to use a disguised voice. You can wear anything you like from a tuxeddo to jeans. This is perfect for a wheelchair since the ventriloquist sits anyway to make the doll talk.

Spaceship

Use a large cardboard box with the bottom cut out and room to put your head & arms though. Simply put a box with the bottom cut out, over the child and chair with plenty of room. Paint the box silver. You can add red reflectors if you have some or paint red lights on. I think it would look real neat if you had real battery powered Christmas or Halloween lights attached to it.

An idea if you use a respirator.

Deep Sea Diver

How about going as a deep-sea diver, thus blending the tube into your disguise? Borrow a diving mask and fins. Dress in a wet suit if you can, or dye long pajamas gray to make a suit. Cover the wheelchair with blue material and glue on construction paper or foil-covered fishes. Put them on yourself as well as the chair.

The rule in any wheelchair outfit, of course, is keeping it out of the wheels. Therefore, long flowing gowns won't work. But any outfit can be tucked in around the legs, Snow White could be done by making a pair of loose pink trousers or even pajamas to look like a skirt. This would look good with a hot pink and white wheelchair.

Costumes for people on Crutches

If you want to disguise your crutches, how about becoming a "spider" or an "octopus?"

Spider

A tuxedo, leotard, or pajamas make up your costume. You'll need an extra leotard or long johns bottom for the crutches-legs. Hot glue some strips of yellow fabric on the top to make the body, maybe even stuff it. Cut the legs off one pair of long johns and slide them over the crutches, secure them with hot glue or needle and thread, and stuff them with batting, rags, clothes, anything to make them round and leg-like. This gives the illusion of four legs. If four aren't enough, make up more stuffed legs and sew them to your outfit. Please be careful walking.

Octopus

Make the head with paper mache. Blow up a big, thick balloon. Then either mix up flour and water to make a paste or use wallpaper paste. Cut strips of newspaper and dip in the paste, then layer onto the balloon. This process will take several days to dry between layers and harden. You'll want it to be covered with several layers. Let the head dry and paint it, then puncture the balloon and cut the end off the form, make eye holes and you've got a great head.
For the rest of the outfit, use green leotards or dye long johns green. You'll need one top and two bottoms. Cut the legs off one set of bottoms and slide them over the crutches to the hand level, securing with hot glue, Velcro or needle and thread. Stuff them to get a round shape. Glue or sew on plastic or rubber suction cups to finish the legs. Again you'll have four legs rather than eight, but four more can be made, stuffed and attached to your outfit. Please be careful walking.
