The Putney Ranch, on the south-east shore of Lake Manzanita, was bequeathed to the developmentally disabled, in 1967, by the estate of Judge Marcia Putney.

The now improved Sierra mountain recreation site, including Camp Manzanita and Camp Sequoia Tree, is available for rental to public and private groups.

Past events have included intensive youth camps, "Pioneer Days" old west experiences, camp outs, youth conferences, and fishing contests.

The Camp Schedule still has OPENINGS FOR PRIVATE GROUP RENTAL IN 2003 and 2004 !

The Putney Ranch Camp is rented cafeteria style; groups select the facilities and services they need and are billed for only the activities they have chosen. Inexpensive small group retreats, management planning meetings and family reunions are possible under this open pricing approach!

- - - The Setting - - -

The Camp is located near North Fork, California, approximately 30 miles from Yosemite National Park in the Sierra Nevada mountain range. The site is 3.5 hours from San Francisco and 4.0 hours from Los Angeles. The facility is operated by the County of Madera - under the authority of Sheriff John P. Anderson.

Elevation of the camp ranges above and below 3,000 feet. There are 10 half-sided, screened-in cabins with beds that sleep up to 65 guests. Open ground camping for up to 125 people is possible. There are two shower/toilet facilities on the grounds.

There are Pine Mountain Forests and Oak Grassland environments on the 87 acre ranch. The camp is adjacent to the Sierra National Forest.

Commercial services (gas, auto repair, post office, groceries, restaurants) are within two miles of the gate.

Administrative offices with telephone, fax, and work-desks are available.
