CONSTRUCTING A SPINNAKER FROM POLYTARP Spinnakers are best made from
a lighter weight polytarp, such as the common 6 x 8
weave, 2.5 0z. blue polytarp
found at hardware and home improvement stores. Look for a colorful, light tarp
that will complement your boat. Next, run double-faced tape around the outline
of your sail, making certain that you leave enough material to overlap at the
center line. No reinforcing line is needed in the overlaps, but you will need
to sew up the center of your sail. With the addition of a couple of
strategically-placed V-Darts and three grommets, one at each corner, you should
be able to finish construction of a spinnaker in a couple of hours.
