AOL has gone FREE!!
What does this mean to you, and this website?
Well, I can access all my files again, via standard FTP. After dropping my AOL account 18 months ago, I could not access the site to make ANY page updates...to ANY content on this website. Now, I can. I'll be updating the site with a new look, theme, and links, and point lots of current pages to NEW pages now at www.survivalring.org, or www.theblastshelter.com.
I hope you'll forgive me for not absorbing the cost of all the things required to keep this website updated, as well as all my OTHER web projects, computer upgrades, software purchases, and whatnot (see a list below).
But, in the last two years, I've earned TWO college degrees (electronic media AND web design), and they were NOT free (total cost to this point ($15,000 and counting). Google and thousands of other websites point to this website for all the content that has been here for MANY years, and thanks to the changes of AOL and it's inability to think ahead, they've HAD to change business models yet again, which in this case HELPS. Stay tuned, new stuff is coming!
On this, the 5th anniversary of the events of 9/11, I want you to know...to understand...and to realize now more than ever... there are people out there trying to hurt us...the average citizen. WE have to take resposibility for keeping our selves, our families, and our communities safe. The government is good at one thing...taking care of itself. YOU and I will have to do the hard work, of finding the information, learning the skills, training the instincts to act, and sharing what we know, with all that will listen to this simple, yet oh so important phrase....be prepared.
I started this website in the fall of 1997. I've been sharing life saving, tax payer produced survival and civil defense information for free, ever since. I am now making it my life's work. I've published TWO CD Roms, with over 26,000 pages of printable information in the past 4 years. I have earned two college degrees in 3 years. I'm now working on a Bachelors degree in Emergency Management, and will follow that with a Masters in Homeland Security. I am deadly serious in this quest...completely and totally focused on continuing this project throughout the rest of my life. My family supports this work, and is helping in every way possible. Even my wife returned to college and has also earned two degrees, to help continue this work. It is something this world has needed since the start of the Cold War, if not earlier. Instant, and full access to all that life saving information, documentation, and community oriented skills that have almost disappeared.
Katrina proved that we, the common citizen, are completely on our own in a real catastrophe. Be the solution...not part of the problem...not a victim...and not a profiteer...the next time disaster or terrorists strike. Help us...by helping yourselves. THIS is why I am here, and will forever be on the web.

The OLD Big News...March 2005
This website, here on AOL, will be DISAPPEARING as of JUNE 1st, 2005.
Why?
Because AOL costs too damn much. I already have to pay DSL fees of $45 a month for access, $155 a year for my webhost on Hostrocket, another $90 plus on all my domains. The $15 more I have to pay to JUST keep this AOL email address, and this tiny amount of web space for THE BLAST SHELTER (using less then 9 megabytes), is simply not worth it, since I am again a college student, with college student frugal living needs.
But, not to fear. There is a solution.
The entire site is MOVING...that's right. To my big website, at SurvivalRing. It even has it's own domain name...
Even better...it'll be getting OVERHAULED over the summer...after 5 years of stagnation.
