The RAMBO FAMILY TREE by Beverly Nelson Rambo 26 May 2006. 2nd edition, final pre-publication draft by Ron Beatty http://members.aol.com/RamboBook RAMBO38.TXT is the name of this file. It covers only one generation of Rambos. This is not a web page. It is ASCII, one of 50 Rambo text files. If you view this file in a web browser (like Internet Explorer), the text runs off the right edge of the screen (and you cannot specify "word wrap"). You will need to save this file to disk and use any word processor to view it. If you find one ancestor, but have trouble finding earlier ancestors, read the "Introduction" web page. The file APPENDIX.TXT explains the numbering system. Notice that each earlier generation has one less digit in the number. If a family had more than nine children, the tenth child is numbered "A," the eleventh "B," and so on. The web site contains much more information about Rambos, genealogy, and the forthcoming book. Check the "Introduction" page there first and proceed as appropriate. Generally you will find no mention of living persons on the web or in the book. If you do want to see your name in print or on the web, you must send me an explicit request. All Rambo descendants, regardless of surname, are encouraged to send their ancestry for inclusion in the third edition of the book. Contact rsbeatty@gmail.com, but be patient as my e-mail is neglected for months at a time. If you knew the amount of work involved in this effort and the number of correspondants you'd understand. (My personality defects exacerbate the problem.) The file ENDNOTES.TXT contains the list of references. Within the paragraphs about your ancestor, you may see numbers enclosed in parenthesis, such as this: (589) or this: (589),, p. 32) These numbers correlate to a reference number in the file ENDNOTES.TXT. See the web page "Introduction" for an explanation. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- The children of [#31C211] William and Malinda (Murrey) Runyan [son of John, Margaret (Rambo) Runyan, Jacob, Swan, Peter, Peter] were Marcus DeLaFayette, Tavenor Andrew Jackson, Nancy, Margaret, Elizabeth, Harriet A., William E., and James Knox Polk. 31C2111. Red Bluff Daily News, Monday, 24 Oct 1932 "J.M. Howell Aged Pioneer Passes Away Tehama county today, lost one of its most picturesque pioneer characters in the passing of James H. Howell, 90, who came to California in 1859 as a member of a wagon train and in a few years became one of the leading sheepmen of the Sacramento valley, ranging his vast herds throughout Tehama and Shasta counties. Despite his advanced years, Howell remained active until about three weeks ago when he was stricken with a heart attack. It was realized then that the end was near, and it was only his strong will and hardy character for which he was noted that kept him alive until today. James M. Howell was born in Warren county, Missouri on February 15, 1842. His grandfather fought in the Revolutionary War and the War of 1812. On arriving in California, Howell worked on ranches for several months in Ione valley. He then came down into the Sacramento valley and sought work as a sheepherder. In 1862, he entered the sheep business for himself by purchasing half of a flock of 1100 sheep. From that time until a few years ago, he was one of the outstanding figures in the sheep industry in California. He won a gold medal at the Louisiana purchase exposition with a display of Merino wool. He was the father of eight children, five of whom are still living. Besides the widow, the following children survive their father: Arthur Howell, Ralph Howell and Mrs. Nora Norvell, Red Bluff; Mrs. Louis Sydenstricker, Live Oak and Frank Howell, Oakland.
