AUTOUR D’UN ANCIEN
MOULINAGE DE SOIE
C'est en juillet 1992 que Lize et Edouard de Lang achètent et
restaurent un ancien moulin-filature de soie, construit au 18ème siècle, situé à une
altitude de 550 mètres au bord d’une limpide rivière et entouré de prés en
terrasses et de bois de châtaigniers.
Usine
L’usine construite en grosses pierres naturelles, respire la sobriété
propre à l'esprit de l'ancien moulinage. Son caractère industriel est soigneusement
conservé et traduit dans une ambiance sympathique. Une exposition permanente d’une
trentaine de photos (1870-1930) sur l'histoire de la soie, l'architecture des usines et la
souffrance des fileuses souligne son identité remarquable.
Chambres
Dans le vieux bâtiment 6 chambres de qualité avec salle de bains et wc
privatifs sont à la disposition de 12 hôtes. Ici règne un équilibre visuel entre les
belles pierres apparentes, les plafonds voûtés, les quelques meubles antiques et les
constructions modernes aux matériaux contemporains.
Gîte de Groupe
Le bâtiment où jadis les turbines alimentées par l’eau de la Glueyre
faisaient tourner l’usine est transformé en Gîte de Groupe. Ce gîte offre
l’hébergement (hors saison) à 28 personnes, dans des dortoirs d’une conception
remarquable.
Gîte Rural
Une ancienne bergerie est devenue Gîte Rural. Une maison complète qui permet
avec 4 chambres, salle de bains, wc, cuisine, salon et séjour un accueil confortable et
rustique à 6 hôtes.
Randonnées à pied
Autour et à partir de Chabriol il y a un choix d’une vingtaine de
randonnées pédestres. Elles varient en horaires entre 2 et 7 heures, enjambent des
dénivellations de 200 à 500 mètres, battent des châtaigneraies, prés, forêts de
chênes, d’hêtres et de sapins. Traversent rivières et ruisseaux. Par ci et par là
on rencontre une ferme déserte. Le silence règne partout. Les vues sur les Alpes et le
Massif Central impressionnent vivement.
Randonnées à vélo
Un réseau dense de petites routes goudronnées, bien praticables et
parfaitement entretenues, offre des parcours cyclistes de quelques centaines de
kilomètres de longueur et de centaines de mètres de dénivellation. Du Moulinage
Chabriol (altitude 550 m) au marché Du Cheylard (430 m), au Mont Mézenc (1753 m), à la
cascade de Ray Pic (960 m). En Vivarais il y a toutes les possibilités du monde pour les
débutants et les profs.
Parc Régional
Le Vivarais va sans aucun doute devenir Parc Naturel Régional (200.000 ha).
Ça veut dire que la préservation d’une richesse étonnante de faune, flore et de
patrimoine est assurée.
Vaut la peine
Ardelaine: musée sur l’histoire de la laine. Maison du
Châtaignier: sur l’arbre de pain. Musée du Protestantisme: la lutte
sanguinaire des Huguenots. Mohair au Coeur: l’élevage de chèvres
d’angora et les produits. La Ferme de Pisse Renard: les goûters de tartines
et les lapins angora. Et ensuite sur place: le calme, le repos, la verdure, la
rivière et la baignade. Chabriol est ouvert toute l’année.
Proximité
Le Moulinage est à 5 minutes de St.-Pierreville, à une heure de Valence. A 2
heures de Lyon et de Marseille. A 4 heures de Genève, Paris et Amsterdam. Près du
Gerbier de Jonc et des pistes de ski de fond du Massif Central.

The Old Silk Mill
At an altitude of 550 m, along the side of a clear little river, in a flowery garden
and surrounded by terraced hillsides and chestnut woods, the former silk mill Chabriol
(18th century), completely renovated, offers the gateway to a fantastic stay in the heart
of the charming Ardèche, south France.
La Glueyre Murmuring in Winter and Summertime
La Glueyre is a first category little river that flows into the Eyrieux and Rhône.
Rich in trouts, roaches, beavers, crayfishes. Natural swimming pool.
The Chabriol Garden
Chabriol is surrounded by a splendid garden. Roses, rudbeckias, tulips, irises,
asters, daffodils, marguerites, gladiolus, lavender. The strongly-smelling honeysuckle,
rhododendron, hydrangea, forsythia. The cypresses, catalpas boules, accacias, plane trees.
Wild plants, flowers and medicinal herbs.
The Chestnut Woods
The famous "Châtaigneraie des Boutières", where the chestnut abounds at an
altitude between 300 and 700 meters.
The Exhibition about Silk (1870 -1930)
A permanent exhibition of thirty photos (1870 -1930) representing the silk production, the
factory architecture and the social conditions, underlines the remarkable identity of Le
Moulinage Chabriol.
The Beautiful GuestRooms
In the old silk mill, 6 double rooms with private bathroom perfectly accommodate 12
guests. Here a visual balance has been created between the rough stone walls, the vaulted
ceilings, some antique furniture and the modern constructions bases on comptemporary
materials.

The Grand Séjour
On the ground floor of the silk mill is a large living with fireplace. The
"agora" for the get-together. Independent entrance.
The Gîte Rural, Guesthouse for 6 persons
This former farmhouse is fully restored and transformed in a cosy Gîte Rural
(guesthouse). A spacious cottage of 140 m2 comfortably furnished in french country style,
apparent stone walls and wooden beams. Equipped for 6 persons, the gîte offfers all you
need for a plaesant stay: 4 bedrooms, bathroom, WC, kitchen, 2 living rooms and a charming
private garden.
The Gîte Chabriol (Guesthouse)
The Gîte Chabriol is an old barn totally renovated, where in former days the turbines
feeded by the water of the river, drove the machines of the silk mill. In a cosy
atmosphere the Gîte Chabriol accommodates 28 guests in dormitories of a particular
conception.
Accommodation: 28 guests. Surface 200 m2. Four dormitories, living, kitchen, two large
bathrooms (showers, WCs and washbasins).

Hiking and Walking around Chabriol
There are about 20 walking-tours around and starting from Chabriol. They vary in time
span between 2 and 7 hours. They meander through chestnut woods, meadows, forests. They
pass clear streams and little rivers. They are offering impressive views on the mountain
ranges of the Alpes and the Massif Central.
The Cycling-Tours
An amazing network of quiet country roads perfectly maintained, offers cycling
circuits of hundreds of miles. From Chabriol (altitude 550 m) to Le Cheylard ( 430 m), to
the Mont Mézenc (1753 m), to the waterfall of Ray Pic (960 m).
Regional Park
This area of the Ardèche will be Regional Natural Park (200.000 ha) in 1999. That
means that the protection of an astonishing richness of fauna, flora and of cultural
inheritance is assured.

"Far off the beaten path, Le Moulinage Chabriol is a bed and breakfast made in
heaven for those who enjoy walking through quiet woodlands with only the song of the birds
and the music of rushing water to interrupt the absolute quiet. Lize and Edouard de Lang
wearied of their demanding careers in Holland and moved to France to enjoy a less harried
life. They discovercd a wonderful 18th-century silk mill high in the hills, nestled on the
banks of the rushing La Glueyre river, which they renovated and remodeled to accommodatc
six guestrooms, five of which have a stunning view of the river below. The rooms are
fairly small, but big enough for twin beds (which can be joined to make kings), a writing
desk, and a chair. There is nothing contrived or "country-cozy" here - although
there are some antiques used as accents, there is a pleasing austerity to the décor, with
freshly painted white walls, modern blue chairs and track lighting. Handsomely displayed
on the walls is a museum-quality exhibit of very old photographs of men and women working
in the silk factory. The terraced gardens surrounding the home are exceptionally
beautiful. Directions: Leave the A7 at the Loriol exit (just south of Valence). Cross the
Rhône, following signs to La Voulte, take Dl20 to St.-Sauveur de Montagut, then D102
towards Albon. Stay on the D102 past St.-Pierreville. In a few minutes, you will see the

VANUIT EEN OUDE
FRANSE ZIJDEFABRIEK
Juli 1992. Lizelien en Ed de Lang kopen en verbouwen een
voormalige zijdefabriek (Moulin-Filature) uit de XVIIIe eeuw, waar men tot 1960 de
zijdecocon afwikkelde en de draad tot stevig garen twijnde. Le Moulinage Chabriol ligt in
het hart van de Vivarais (departement Ardèche), aan het heldere riviertje «La Glueyre»,
op een hoogte van 550 meter en is omgeven door schitterende terrassen, weiden en
kastanjebossen.
Oude Fabriek
De geheel uit natuursteen opgetrokken fabriek ademt soberheid,
passend bij het karakter van deze voormalige twijnderij. De industriele stijl is er
behouden gebleven en vertaald in een sympathieke sfeer. Een permanente tentoonstelling van
een dertigtal fotos (1870 tot 1930) over de zijdeindustrie, de architectuur van de
fabrieken en de beproevingen van de spinsters onderstreept de bizondere identiteit van Le
Moulinage Chabriol.
Nieuwe Kamers
In de oude fabriek zijn 6 tweepersoons kamers gebouwd, ieder met
een eigen badkamer en wc. Er is een visueel evenwicht gecreëerd tussen enerzijds de
oorspronkelijke ruw-stenen muren en gewelfde plafonds en anderzijds de nieuwe constructies
uitgevoerd in materialen van deze tijd.
Gîte de Groupe
Het gebouw waar ooit de waterturbines stonden, is
getransformeerd tot Gîte de Groupe. Deze Gîte, voor groepen buiten het hoogseizoen,
biedt onderdak aan 28 mensen in slaapzaaltjes van opmerkelijke conceptie.
Gîte Rural
Een grote stal is Gîte Rural geworden. Een compleet huis dat
met 4 slaapkamers, wc, badkamer, keuken, woon- en eetkamer, 6 mensen een gerieflijk
onderkomen biedt.
Wandelingen
Er zijn vanuit en rondom Chabriol een zestiental wandelingen.
Zij variëren in tijdsduur tussen de 2 en 7 uur. Overbruggen hoogteverschillen van 200 tot
500 meter. Doorkruisen kastanjeboomgaarden, weiden, eiken- dennen- en beukenbossen, gaan
langs terrassen, riviertjes en stroompjes. Hier en daar tref je een eenzame boerderij aan.
Stilte is er alom evenals adembenemende uitzichten op de Alpen en het Massif Central.
Fietstochten
Een dicht net van uitstekend begaanbare en goed onderhouden
asfaltweggetjes (zonder grind) levert verrassend mooie fietsparcoursen op van vele
honderden kilometers lengte en vele honderden meters hoogteverschil. Zoals vanaf Chabriol
(550 m hoogte) naar de Mont Mézenc (1755 m hoogte) naar de markt van Le Cheylard (430 m),
naar de cascade de Ray Pic (960 m). Er zijn mogelijkheden te over voor de beginner en de
veeleisende gevorderde. Auto’s kom je hier overigens niet of nauwelijks tegen.
Parc Régional
Het hart van de Vivarais wordt binnenkort Parc Naturel Régional
(200.000 ha.). Dat betekent het behoud van de grote rijkdom aan fauna, flora en markant
frans patrimoine.
Verblijfskosten
De vergoeding voor een tweepersoonskamer met ontbijt in de oude
fabriek bedraagt 370 Franc per nacht.
De gîte rural kost in het laagseizoen 2.600 Franc per week. Men kan ook de combinatie
maken van de kamers tezamen met de gîte rural voor groepen tot 20 mensen. Prijzen voor de
Gîtes de Groupe op aanvraag. De Moulinage Chabriol is het hele jaar open.
Een bezoek waard
Ardelaine, wolmuseum. Maison du Châtaignier,kastanjemuseum.
Mohair au Coeur, fokkerij van angora geiten. Musée du Protestantisme, over
de strijd van de Hugenoten. Maar u kunt ook gewoon op Chabriol blijven om er te zwemmen
en te vissen in de Glueyre of om ergens rustig in de schaduw een boek te lezen.
Waar ligt Chabriol
Chabriol ligt op 50 km ten zuid westen van Valence (autoroute A7) en op 4 km van
Saint-Pierreville aan de D102. Op 4 uur van Parijs en Genève (TGV). Op 4 uur van
Amsterdam (per KLM tot Lyon, daarna de auto) en op 8 uur per TGV. Zie ook de Carte
