Medical Plan - Back to Basics
Would you give your credit card to a stranger along with your pin number? Of course not, it would be stupid. Why, because he would squander your wealth ,put you in debt and never even say thanks. This is the fundamental problem with our current health plans. We give the government our credit card ( unlimited taxation) and let it spend our money without being personally responsible. The bureaucratic system feels no pain when it shells out someone elses money and as a result feels no need to limit its spending.
On the other side of the coin are the HMOs and insurance companies. They want to spend as little as possible because of their responsibility to the bottom line.
As long as you have an institution as the payer you will either have soaring costs or reduced medical care. And frequently, both.
Our plan is aimed at eliminating the middle man and returning the control of medical costs to the market place. This is an old fashioned concept that has served our economy well for over two hundred years.
Here is our proposal on how this can be done. Every year each citizen of the United States will be given a medical allowance say about two thousand dollars a year. This is a credit, not cash. The recipients will be responsible for using their credit to cover their medical expenses. They can purchase medical insurance, pay for doctor visits, or even let it accumulate from year to year if not used.
This will encourage prudent use of medical services, reduce government involvement, control costs by involving the awesome power of the market place and provide a safety net for the low income families and seniors.
At this time this is only a concept and we would like your feed back and questions so that we can flesh it out before we make it a proposal.
