Comprehensive Questions Be prepared to write a paragraph or so on the 
following topics:

1. The Ottoman Turks were successful in building a strong state in Anatolia and 
beyond over a period of about 200 years.  What were some of the things that they 
did that made this state successful for so long?  

2. Catherine the Great of Russia was influenced by enlightenment and atleast in 
theory wanted to rule in Russia as an enlightened ruler.  What were some of the 
things that she did that was in line with enlightenment principles?  What were 
some of her failures?  Why do you think she was not able to carry out her desire 
to rule in an enlightened manner?

3. Discuss two or three of the ways that industrialization influenced and 
changed political, economic, and/or social organization of people throughout the 
world?  You can answer this question by focusing on a particular country or 
social group or by discussing more broad issues that affect large groups of 
people.
