The Musicians

There are many musicians who often play with Rainier Chamber Winds. The following are brief biographies of some of our most regular players:

Ann Kosanovic-Brown, bassoon

Ann received her Bachelor of Music degree from the Oberlin Conservatory. She has also studied at the Mozarteum Hochschule in Salzburg and the Karajan Akadamie in Berlin.

Ann was the principal bassoon with the Natal Philharmonic in Durban, South Africa; Das Symphonie Orchester Berlin; and the Camerata Akadamica Salzburg. She has also performed with the Berlin Philharmonic, Deutsche Oper Berlin, the Mozarteum Orchestra, and the Seattle Symphony Orchestra. She has appeared as soloist with the Rainier Symphony, Natal Philharmonic Orchestra in South Africa, Jeunesse Orchester Linz, Capella Salisburgensis, Round Top Festival Orchestra-Texas and the Oberlin Chamber Orchestra. Ann is currently a member of the Ensemble Vindobona.

Marlene Weaver, bassoon

Marlene received her Bachelor of Music through the University of Washington and Seattle Pacific University. She has performed with the Juneau Symphony, Seattle Symphony Orchestra and Opera, Civic Northwest Ballet Orchestra and the Northwest Chamber Orchestra. Marlene is a founding member of the Northwoods Quintet and free-lances in the Seattle area.

Eleanor Havens, clarinet

Eleanor received her Bachelor of Music Education degree from Northwestern University, and her Master of Music in clarinet performance from the University of Arizona. Her teachers include Russell Dagon, Robert Marcellus and Clark Brody.

Besides the Rainier Chamber Winds, Eleanor has freelanced with other performing groups in the Puget Sound area, including the Chaspen Symphony Orchestra, several theaters, and as a frequent substitute for various other groups. She was second and Eb clarinet with the Boise Philharmonic Orchestra, and has extensive chamber music experience.

Gregg Miller, clarinet

Gregg holds a D.M.A. from the University of Colorado and a Master of Musicand Bachelor of Music degrees from Washington State University. Gregg has experience in chamber music ensembles and orchestras in both Finland and Germany, where he lived and played for a number of years. He taught at Hastings College in Nebraska for five years.

Currently Gregg is the Chair of Music at Cornish College of the Arts and does freelance orchestra performances in Seattle. He is a member of Sonora.

Cheryl Fogg Kalinowski, flute

Cheryl received her Bachelor of Music degree in music education and flute performance from the University of Lowell. She has held first chair positions with the Nashua Symphony, New Hampshire Philharmonic and New England Wind Ensemble.

Presently Cheryl is a member of various chamber ensembles and freelances regularly. She is also a flute instructor, chamber coach and the director and founder of the Flute Performance Ensemble at Music Center of the Northwest. She is in her second season as director of the Seattle Flute Society Flute Choir.

Kristen Reitz, french horn

Kristen Reitz holds degrees in horn performance from the Juilliard School in New York City and from the Hartt School of Music in Hartford, CT. She has performed locally with the Pacific Northwest Ballet Orchestra, the Northwest Chamber Orchestra, the Auburn Symphony, the International Festival of Seattle, the Northwest Sinfionietta, and is currently a regular member of the Tacoma Symphony, the Tacoma Opera Orchestra, the Village Theatre Orchestra, the Washington Brass Ensemble, and the Rainier Chamber Winds. Kristen has also been involved in studio recording, youth symphony coaching and is currently Instructor of Horn at Western Washington University. Prior to arriving in the Northwest, Kristen toured the U.S. and Canada with several Broadway shows. She has also performed with the Palm Beach Opera Orchestra, the Hartford Symphony, the New Haven Symphony, the Connecticut Operate Orchestra, the Florida Philharmonic and the Chataqua Symphony.

Shannon Spicciati, oboe

Shannon is a freelance oboist and private teacher in the Seattle/Tacoma area. She performs locally with the Northwest Sinfonietta and Tacoma Symphony, and also performs often in Portland, Oregon, as principal oboist of the Oregon Ballet Theatre Orchestra and principal substitute for the Oregon Symphony. Shannon is an active solo and chamber musician as well, playing with the Pacific Chamber Soloists and other groups. She has a Bachelor's degree from the Eastman School of Music, where she studied with Richard Killmer, and is currently pursuing a Master's degree at the University of Washington. Her summer festival experience includes the Anchorage Festival of Music, Schlossfestspiele (Castle Festival) in Heidelberg, Germany, a 1994 tour of Japan with the Eastman Wind Ensemble, and the Britt Festival in Medford, Oregon.

Beth Lenz, percussion

Beth received her Bachelor of Music Education from Drake University, and her Master of Music in Percussion Performance and her Master of Arts in Ethnomusicology from the University of Michigan.

Beth is currently the principal timpanist with the Seattle Choral Company Orchestra and has performed with the Bellevue Philharmonic for four years. She was principal timpanist with the Des Moines Symphony for one year where she also spent three years as a percussionist. Beth is currently a member of Xylophonia, a mallet ragtime ensemble, and Rhythm Magic, a percussion trio specializing in educational performances. She also teaches privately and free-lances in the Seattle area.
