Louis Kleopfer (1864 - 1948)


Louis Kleopfer was born in 1864 on the family farm in Republican Township of Jefferson County, Indiana. He spent most of his life living and operating a farm located near the Sharon Hill Church near Madison, Indiana. He married Emma Sieving and they had seven children. He was remembered by his niece, Mary Margaret Kleopfer Tevis: "Uncle Louie, we called him, bought a farm near Lexington had 3 girls and 4 boys. We visited there often, he spent his years and died there." They belonged to the Kent Methodist Church. Louis died in 1948 at the age of 84. He and Emma are buried at the Sharon Hill Church cemetery.

His obituary read as follows:

"Louis Kleopfer, 84, a retired Jefferson County farmer, died at 5:00 o'clock Saturday evening at the home of his son, Howard Kleopfer, two miles east of Kent. His death terminated a long illness. The deceased was a native and life long resident of this county and for more than 50 years operated a farm near Sharon Hill Presbyterian Church. He was a member of the Kent Methodist church. Surviving besides the son are his widow, Mrs. Emma S. Kleopfer: three other sons, Arch, of Kent: Elmer of Lexington, and George of Indianapolis; three daughters, Miss Agnes at home; Mrs. Freda Ingram, of Cincinnati, and Mrs. Lloyd Nighbert, of Rushville; two brothers, Will and Charles Kleopfer, of Kent; a sister, Mrs. Margaret Schulte, Cincinnati; 13 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 o'clock at Sharon Hill Church with the Rev. Morton Hanna in charge. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call at the Taff funeral home in Hanover up to time of the services."

Married Fifty Years
To Celebrate Golden Wedding and Birthday Anniversaries

Mr. and Mrs. louis Kleopfer of Lexington, route 2, will celebrate their golden wedding anniversary on March 10. This will be a double celebration as it is also Mr. Kleopfer's 76th birthday. His wife is 72.

They were married by the Rev. A. Y. Moore, at the Sharon Hill church and are living on the same farm where they started house-keeping.

They will celebrate with a family dinner at noon and a reception for their many friends in the afternoon.

Mr. and Mrs. Kleopfer have seven children: Arch, George, Howard, Elmer, Agnes, Mrs. Frieda Ingram and Mrs. Anna Nighbert. They have fourteen grandchildren. Mrs. Kleopfer's three bridesmaids and Mr. Kleopfer's best man will be present to join this happy affair.
