Death of Mrs. Mary Ellen Petrokos
Mother of Seven Children passes Following a Short Illness
Mrs. Mary Ellen Petrokos, age 35, wife of John Petrokos, died at the King's daughters hospital, last night at 10 o'clock, following an illness of only one week resulting from an attack of appendicitis.
Mrs. Petrokos, a mother of seven children, and wife of a prominent confectioner of this city, was formerly a resident of nearby Hanover, during which time she was united in marriage to Mr. Tony Spry, but their married life only covered a period of one year, due to the death of Mr. Spry. Two years later she married Mr. petrokos and came to Madison in 1916, making this city her home since that time. She was a member of the Methodist church, an amiable mother to her small children. The news of the death has cast a gloom of sadness over a large circle of very intimate friends.
She is survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. I. R. Craigmyle, of near Hanover, two brothers, Hugh and Gurnsey of Indianapolis, three sisters, Mrs. Raymond Adams of Louisville, Mrs Elmer Kleopfer, of near hanover, and Mrs. Ida Mae, at home, husband and seven children, the oldest of which is nine years of age and the youngest only 14 months.
Funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon at two o'clock at Trinity church in charge of Rev. C. R. Stout. Burial will be in Springdale cemetery.
In Memoriam of Mrs. Ellen Petrokos.
There is no death, the stars go down.
To rise upon some other shore;
And bright in Heaven's jeweled crown
They shine forever more.
There is no death, an angel's form
Walks o'er the earth with silent tread;
He bears our best loved things away,
And then we call them dead.
He leaves our hearts all desolate,
He plucks our fairest, sweetest flowers;
Transplanted into bliss,
They now adorn immortal bowers.
Born into that undying life,
They leave us but to come again ;
And ever near us, though unseen
The dear immortal spirits tread.
Mrs's Mary Ellen Petrokas, wife of Mr. John Petrokas, of this city, answered the call of the Good Shepherd at 10 p. m., August 22, 1926. Acute appendicitis, accompanied by a weak heart defied the skill of Drs. Turner and Denny and the caretul and constant care of the nurses and members of the family some ot whom were with her constantly.
Mrs. Petrokas was baptized when she was a little girl and she later made her confession of faith to her Creator. Altho she was not a recorded member of the church, she attended whenever her household duties's would allow. Her children attended the Trinity M. E. Sunday school.
Mrs. Petrokas was born in Lockport, KY. December 23, 1893 being therefore 32 years seven month and 29 days of age. She was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. I. R. Craigmyle, a member of a family of eight children five of whom are left to mourn her loss, namely Gurnsey Craigmyle, of Kent; Huey Craigmyle of Indianapolis; Mrs. Ethel Kleopfer of Lexington, Ind.; Mrs. Wilmer Adams of Louisville, Ky., and Ida Craigmyle of Hanover.
She was the mother of five girls, Tycia May, nine, Catherine and Christina, six, Martha, four, and Gladys Louise, one, and two boys; Peter, eight, and Inguin R. three. Many friends and relatives gathered at the Trinity M. E. church for a brief service before the body was taken to Springdale cemetery to be tenderly laid to rest.
Lives of great men all remind us
We can make our lives sublime,
And departing leave behind us
Footprints in the sands of time.
Footprints, that perhaps another,
Sailing o'er life's solemn main,
A forlorn and shipwrecked brother,
Seeing, shall take heart again.
Let us then be up and doing.
With a heart for any fate;
Still achieving, still pursuing,
Learn to labor and to wait.
