Teams & Divisions, Promotion-Relegation
& Playoff Eligibility and Format

The CCSL Premier League has one division of nine teams.  These are the most competitive teams, many of which have players with college level experience.

The
CCSL Recreation League has three divisions:  the First Division (9 teams), the Second Division (8 teams) and the Third Division (8 teams).

Promotion and Relegation

In an effort to keep the divisions on equal, competitive footing at the end of each season, the CCSL uses a promotion and relegation system.  The bottom two teams from the Premier, First, and Second divisions get relegated to the next lower division,  while the top two teams in the First, Second, and Third Division get promoted to the next higher division. An exception to the promotion rule applies to the team that wins the divisional playoff championship.  That team is eligible for promotion and if it decides to move up the team ranked second at the end of the regular season will not be promoted.

Due to a shortage of available fields, the CCSL Premier and Recreation Leagues are near their maximum capacity of teams, so it is very difficult for new teams to be added unless others first drop out.  New teams could be added if the team desiring to join obtains its own home field that can be used for CCSL games.

Playoffs

The top six teams in each Division are eligible to play in a post-season, inter-division, playoff round to determine the four respective Division champions.  Teams seeded 1 and 2 receive a first round bye to the semi-finals.  Teams seeded 3-6 play each other (3v6, 4v5) to advance to the semi finals.  The lowest seeded team to advance from the quarter-finals faces the No. 1 seed in the semi-finals, while the highest seeded team to advance faces the No. 2 seed in the semi-finals.  All playoff games are single elimination.  Ties at the end of regulation are decided by two, five minute sudden-death (golden goal) overtime periods, followed by penalty kicks (alternating genders M-F-M-F-M).
