A player may only play for one CCSL Team, except that a CCSL player may play for another CCSL team to allow the other team to prevent a forfeit. A team's roster is limited to 25 players. A game roster must be completed and submitted to the referee at least 5 minutes prior to kickoff. For each minute (or partial minute) that a team is late in submitting its game roster, the team will be fined $5.
All teams are required to submit an electronic roster of their players to the CCSL Commissioner (an Excel spreadsheet). The e-roster must contain the team name, each player's last name, first name, street address, city/town, state, zip code, date of birth, home telphone number, business telephone number, and e-mail address. THESE ITEMS MUST BE PLACED IN SEPARATE FIELDS (CELLS) IN THE EXCEL SPREADSHEET. A roster may be modified up until the fifth scheduled week of play, but teams may be required to pay an additional $7.75 per player to the extent that a team uses more that 25 players over the course of the entire season.
There are no slide tackles. A slide tackle is punished by the award of an indirect free kick (or a direct free kick if warranted) and usually results in the issuance of a caution (yellow card). If you are issued a caution, you must sit out for two minutes. A team may make a substitution for any cautioned player, unless it is the player's second caution in that game, in which case the player will be sent off and no substitution allowed.
Cautions (yellow cards) cumulate and a player that receives more than two cautions during the season (and playoffs) will be suspended for one game as if an ejection (red card) was issued. A red card offense is punished by at least a one game suspension (the next scheduled game) and will carry over to the next season. A forfeited or canceled game will not count towards a suspension as a scheduled game.
A team must play with a minimum of seven players (at least three of each gender) to prevent a forfeit. A team may play with a maximum of six men, including the goalkeeper.
Unlimited substitutions are allowed on all goal kicks, after a goal is scored, and on throw-ins when the substituting team is in possession. During times of extreme heat, substitution rules may be relaxed.
Shin guards are mandatory.
The home team (listed second) must change jerseys in case of a color conflict.
Trash talking, taunting, the use of foul language, fighting, and the uttering of racist or sexist comments are strictly prohibited and will result in an automatic review of the player's conduct and status by the CCSL Commissioner, irrespective of whether the conduct was witnessed by the referee or punished on the field. The CCSL Commissioner has the sole discretion to prohibit a player from further participation in the CCSL as a result of any such conduct.
All players must sign a waiver form and submit the form to the CCSL Commissioner prior to participating in any CCSL game or function. Teams/players will be fined $10 for using a player who has not signed a waiver and that player will be required to immediately leave the game until the waiver is completed and any fine paid. A team that uses an unregistered player will forfeit all games in which the unregistered player participated.
All teams can advance to the post-season, single-elimination playoff round, which begins immediately after the end of the regular season (click here to review the playoff format).
