Dec 23 2004 - For the ratings week ending December 19th, CSI: Miami came in #1 with an 13.7 rating/22 share, bringing in 12.58 million viewers for CBS that night. Dec 22 2004 - CSI Miami is mentioned in the December 26th TV Guide, in which it's revealed that in February, the show will once again have a 90-minute episode during the February sweeps period. This time, it revolves around a fire in the Everglades, as well as a prison break by one of Miami's most infamous killers and "the kidnapping of a major scene-stealer." Dec 12 2004 - Megastar.co.uk reviews the CSI: Miami video game... "Beginners will soon be sucked into the storyline and it never really seems to get boring, as every new discovery pushes the story forward, some of which is relayed to you in flashbacks reminiscent of the show." Click on the link for the full review. Adventuregamers also reviews the game, summing it up with "Though I did enjoy the mysteries at the heart of the five cases, the narrative aspects of the game weren't enough to overcome the shortcomings of CSI: Miami. The worst thing of all is there is little justification for shortchanging this license. With the profit margins on this series, it should have looked as good as Myst IV and played equally well. Bottom-line, unless you are a dedicated fan of the show, you might want to skip Miami and wait for CSI: New York, or better yet, tag along with the Law & Order guys." Click on the link above for the full two page review. Dec 08 2004 – Jonathan Togo is profiled in an extensive article at Jewsweek.com. The young actor is very thankful for landing on CSI: Miami, as he said ""The odds are so against you," explaining that of the 50 pilots made each year, there are only so many parts to go around, and very few pilots go to air, and less survive the first year. "So to get on a show as good and as successful as CSI: Miami, to be part of the franchise, is astonishing. I feel extremely lucky." The 27-year-old actor, who began acting in community theater as a child, was nervous at first upon joining CSI: Miami, but said that fellow cast members have "been beyond supportive." He sees his character, Ryan Wolfe, as "a bright guy, funny, honest, and he cares deeply," although unlike Wolfe, he wasn't at all keen on dissecting frogs in biology class. "It made me nauseous." He's tackled other aspects of the job, such as the scientific jargon, with help of his girlfriend, actress Diana Gettinger. The pair live with their cat in an apartment that, he says "looks like a Brooklyn brownstone," which makes Togo happy as he'd live in New York City for the past five years and has to adapt to the car-dependent society of Los Angeles. "The thing I miss most about New York is public transportation. There's something about being on a train with hundreds of other people being all smushed in there. It's a very unifying." He and Gettinger picked their current apartment because of its New York feel. "The building looks like a Brooklyn brownstone," says Togo. Togo (who says that the name was originally Tonkaviev) says he's a "a little bit of a mutt. My mother is Italian and Irish and my father is Ukranian-Jewish." He was raised as a Jew is a predominantly Irish-Catholic area, went to a Hebrew school but didn't join a synagogue as that costs money. So, he was "mitzvahed at 13 and basically never returned to the synagogue." Although he characterizes himself as Jewish in culture, he says he's not very religious, but he does identify himself as a Jew. "I believe in the tenets of Judaism. But I find it a little disheartening that it's become so trendy with this kabbalah business. I think everyone is entitled to their own spiritual and religious beliefs and I'm definitely in support of that. I'd characterize myself as a humanist, that's the most important thing, that people treat each other well. I have respect for people who are deeply religious, but I just don't happen to be one of them." Togo finds himself doubly blessed that when he moved to New York to pursue acting professionally, his parents were supportive. "They're beside themselves with happiness these days," says Togo. "They're kvelling all over the place." Also mentioned is Togo's passion with music; he's been playing sax and guitar since childhood, and in college, joined a "punk rock/ska band' called Skabba the Hutt that later became El Conquistadores. For Togo, "music is a hobby and a stress reliever but it was never a really serious endeavor for me like acting was. He considers CSI: Miami to be his dream job. "There's a lot of rejection as an actor," he said. "People say when the right job for you comes you'll know it. All indications point to this one as the one." Click on the link above the full article. Dec 06 2004 - Jonathan Togo was profiled in People magazine. The 27-year-old native of Rockland, Mass. Admits he was a "little nervous" about joining the hit show, but once he joined he felt quite welcomed by the cast. His story is that of many other actors – heading to NYC with a few hundred dollars and a suitcase (in his case, a duffel bag) and made ends meet doing odd jobs. He had small roles in shows such as Judging Amy and the Clint Eastwood movie Mystic River, but now that he's doing well, he says It's like being traded to the Red Sox when you've been on a really bad time." Dec 07 2004 - King World has sold CSI: Miami to stations covering 80% of the country for a fall-2006 debut. Dec 06 2004 - Schoolteacher, actress and theater director Bhetty Waldron passed away at age 63 after a battle with lung cancer. Two years ago, Waldron appear on an episode of CSI: Miami. You can read the full obituary at Palm Beach Post. Dec 06 2004 – The Nashville Online site reports on the second season of CSI: Miami coming out on DVD. "The set presents every triumphant, sophomore-year show uncut, plus various bonus features like interviews and cast trivia. Lead actor David Caruso's portrayal of onetime homicide cop turned forensic investigator Horatio Caine distinguishes this program from the other CSIs. Caine gets more directly involved in every case and has already gotten in more fistfights and gun battles over the series three-year run than any of the other stars combined. His presence, plus the usual production wizardry, writing style and pacing that are now customary for any Jerry Bruckheimer television show, has helped make this show another procedural triumph and make CBS the No. 1 network." Nov 30 2004 – CSI Miami is mentioned ever so slightly in an interesting article on Detective Zuella Nelson, who works in the evidence locker at the Idaho Falls Police Department. "It's really interesting," Zuella laughs. "It is! I love my job!" Although evidence sometimes gets lost or misplaced on TV, it hasn't happened to her yet. Read the full article at Newswatch 3. Nov 30 2004 – Entertainment Tonight had some sound bytes of Jonathan Togo on last night's episode commenting about his female co-stars. He said that Emily Procter had a 'monster truck' and Khandi had tons of sunglasses. Nov 30 2004 – Sofia Milos was one of many celebrities participating in the 73rd annual Hollywood Christmas Parade along Hollywood Boulevard in Hollywood November 28, 2004. You can see a photo of her alongside Los Angeles County Sheriff Lee Baca at Yahoo for a limited time. Nov 30 2004 – Ho hum. ;) CSI Miami won its time slot again last night, averaging a 8.4 ratings, according to Medialife. (It will be news when the CSI shows don't pull in the top ten!) Nov 30 2004 - Jonathan Togo was profiled in People magazine. He had small roles in shows such as Judging Amy and the Clint Eastwood movie Mystic River, but now that he's doing well, he says It's like being traded to the Red Sox when you've been on a really bad time." Togo, who is dating actress Diana Gettinger, says he's always learning something new on the set. Co-star Emily Procter said "He's such a spark. The minute he walked on set, we all fell in love with him." Nov 30 2004 – In an article on travel to Miami, and the problems inherent in going through immigration, CSI: Miami is mentioned in passing. The author cites the quotation on the Statue of Liberty ("Give me your tired, your poor,/ Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free/ The wretched refuse of your teeming shore,/ Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me/ I lift my lamp beside the golden door") and then says "In Miami these sentiments are as hollow as the statuettes. If Miami has a heart it is cold and characterized by utter indifference to human sentiments, suffering and values. The popular television show CSI: Miami is correct only in the sense that the whole of Miami is a crime scene with its epicenter at the airport." He adds that "A journalist friend says that the "CSI" in CSI: Miami stands for "Cubans Superbly Indifferent" or even "Intolerant". Read the full story at Nation News. Nov 16 2004 - CSI Miami was featured on last night's Entertainment Tonight. The women of CSI:M were on E.T. where they talked about the show. Emily Procter said "everything creeped me out before the show, and now nothing creeps me out," she laughed. Khandi Alexander said fans ask her "Honey, do they (the corpses) speak back?" and showed a clip from her 1998 production of Chicago. Sofia Milos is from Zurich, Switzerland and is a practicing Scientologist. She said nobody is a wimp on the set, but when they use raw sausages and the like "it doesn't smell so good under the Miami sun." Emily is from North Carolina and got her start as a weathergirl at a CBS affiliate. "She's 5'3" until she puts her hands on her hips, and then she's about 6'7"," said Emily of her character Calleigh. Meanwhile, David Caruso offered a quick plot summary of last night's episode, then got asked about Horatio's new girlfriend, played by actress Christina Chang. Caruso joked that he'd done all the appropriate sit-ups. "Does anybody want to see me with my shirt off?" he laughed, to which Pat O'Brien reminded him of his infamous nude scene in NYPD Blue. Chang, born in Taiwan (and Chinese-Filipino American) said of the characters, "it's intimate, you'll see us snuggling, if you will." Caruso showed O'Brien what's inside one of the morgue drawers - nothing. Just wires and wood, as it's a fake morgue drawer. Caruso joked "That's unbelievable. That's my feature film career." Nov 13 2004 - Holly Vance, of the former UK series Neighbours, will appear in a guest star capacity in an upcoming episode of CSI: Miami. Nov 12 2004 - CSI: Miami's ladieswill be featured on Entertainment Tonight on Monday the 22nd. Hm, I think it's standard folks should tune into ET on Mondays... Nov 10 2004 - Death pays, at least for actors who portray corpses. The Chicago Sun-Times says that death is a steady job for some. Live actors are painted up with green veins, a bloodless pallor and when necessary, autopsy scars. Actress Megan Boye said "Hey, everybody dies. I get to practice." While dummy corpses are used on the series (especially when dismemberment is required), more often than not live actors play the dead as they must also portray the victim in flashbacks before the murder. Boye plays a woman in the November 29th episode. She's been asphyxiated after a sex game has gone awry, and she's not going to look incredibly bad, as her corpse was discarded in a peat bog, which slows decomposition. However, playing a corpse can put a person to sleep - literally. ''It was myself, David and the table between us with the corpse,'' Khandi Alexander recalled. ''And the guy starts snoring, loudly. In the middle of the scene. And David just turns beet red because he's trying to get through the scene and not laugh.'' Khandi likes dealing with actors rather than dummies, as since her character talks to the body, it "gives me something to feed off." Also, being a corpse has a drawback. Boye had to film a scene in the freezing morning hours, but dressed only in skimpy lingerie. Although she was dragged across a road, buried and unburied and put on a body bag in 40-degree temperatures, she called the experience "so much fun." But she did feel empathy for her character. ''I was lying there for so long and so exposed. There's about 75 people standing around, and I'm just in my underwear, and I started to really feel like this dead body -- which was very violated and very much forgotten about.'' Read the full article at the link above. Nov 09 2004 - The New York Times had a brief article on working stiffs... that is, people who portray corpses on TV. They covered a professional body piercer who doubled as a corpse on NYPD Blue, an 11-year-old girl who played a dead body on CBS's Cold Case, a bathroom attendant who played an ice-picked-to-death corpse on Law & Order, an excutive assistant who was a dead person on Forensic Files, and Danica Stewart (21) who plays a corpse on the upcoming episode "Formalities." She said of her experience, though, on CSI: Miami: "I played a dead body, too. And my eyes were open on that one. It's so much better when they're closed, because when they're open you can't blink and you have to have no movement in your eyes. So I was like, 'Eyes are closed, whew.' " Nov 09 2004 - Khandi Alexander has penned a multi-picture deal with Doc Hollywood Kidz. The press release said "n the first of two planned films, Alexander will develop her self-penned children's tome, Marlowe's Travels, transforming the book into a film for Doc Hollywood Kidz." The book is about a five-year-old boy, the son of a famous and eccentric film star, and his adventures. Doc Hollywood Kidz and CEO Steven Saxton will co-produce in association with Alexander for her Kiss The Sky Productions. You can also check out Khandi's Official Website. Nov 09 2004 - Emily Procter helped Entertainment Tonight cover the CMA Awards. She was one of several hosts at the 38th annual Country Music Awards. Oct 25 2004 - USA Today said of last week's CSI: Miami: "Congratulations to CSI: Miami for replacing an actor without missing a beat. With Rory Cochrane (Speed) opting out of the show, Miami brought in Jonathan Togo, who has made one of the new season's best first impressions as the obsessive Ryan Wolfe." Oct 24 2004 - Rory Cochrane was featured in two Q&A columns in this weekend's newspapers. Both columns asked why he left the show. In USA Weekend, he said he wanted out of a six-year contract. "I really have to tip my hat to those guys who do those show for, like, six or eight years. I am just not cut out for that." In Parade, he said "Don't be mad at CBS. I asked to get out of my contract. I ran out of steam after the monotomy of the same explanatory scientific dialogue for two years." Oct 23 2004 - See the October 23rd entry on the CSI News page for the rundown on Entertainment Tonight's segment on CSI: Miami. Oct 23 2004 - Think that the CSI: Miami police HQ looks familiar? If you live in Hawthorne, CA, it might be because the FAA First Federal Credit Union apparently doubles for the police HQ. A fan spotted three fake Miami PD cars, as wella s David Caruso, at that building. According to folks in one office building, the studio is always filming there, which makes for tight parking for the employees. You can see a photo at this site. (Thanks to Jeanette for the tip). Oct 22 2004 – A CSI set visit has been added to the Broadcaster charity auction site. The winner (and friend) gets a personal tour of the CSI: NY or CSI: Miami sets and meet cast and crew. The auction ends October 28th. Check the site for precise time. Oct 22 2004 - UbiSoft now has up information on the CSI: Miami PC game. The game, due in the 4th quarter of 2004, will feature all characters (yes, including Rory Cochrane), with five new scripts written by Max Allan Collins, four locations, including forensic reconstructions and re-enactments, new "hands-on" puzzle assembly, customizable gameplay, and 15 crime-solving tools. Oct 21 2004 - CSI: Miami is busy filming in Long Beach, CA. They will use the World Trade Center on Ocean Blvd. for a scene in which a Coast Guard helicopter land's on the highrise's heliport. CSI also filmed on Anaheim Street the same day, using the Collision Auto Works building. Oct 18 2004 - A Canadian paper reports that "Christina Chang, best known for her role as ADA Sandy Chang on ABC's recent Dragnet update, is joining the cast of CSI: Miami as a love interest for Horatio (David Caruso). Chang will first air in tonight's episode." Oct 15 2004 - Adam Rodriquez was recently profiled on The Insider. He played guitar for reporter Ananda Lewis (he's learning the acoustic guitar). Adam revealed that as a kid, he wanted to play baseball, and a job at 18 as a Wall Street stockbrocker didn't work out, which was fortunate as now at age 29, he's on a successful TV series. He's also part owner (along with Danny Masterson and Ashton Kutcher) of the Los Angeles hotspot Dolce. Click on the link above for more details and photos. Oct 13 2004 - Hollywood Reporter reviews Khandi Alexander's movie Perfect Strangers. Khandi is mentioned only as a cast member, so click on the link for the full review. Oct 13 2004 - TV Guide said of Rory Cochrane's departure from CSI: Miami ... "So has he committed career suicide? "Well, I never did TV before and I survived," says Cochrane, whose films include Dazed and Confused, Dogtown and Hart's War. Buena Vista Motion Pictures' casting director Marcia Ross agrees. "Rory is known in the casting community, so he'll probably go back to having the kind of career he had before CSI: Miami."" Oct 13 2004 - Variety reports that CSI: Miami came in on top with a 7.7 rating/19 share in adults 18-49, 21.4 million viewers overall) "again overwhelming NBC's "LAX" (3.1/8 in adults 18-49, 7.7 million viewers overall) and also beating out ABC's "Monday Night Football." Oct 10 2004 - Jonathan Togo can be seen in a Direct TV ad (the one with Carmen Electra). I've spotted this ad more on the Sci Fi Channel than elsewhere. Oct 05 2004 - Ubisoft will be making its debut on Xbox in November, offering games for both CSI and CSI: Miami, which "is a first-person adventure game that puts the fate unsolved mysteries into the hands of the console gamer as they examine crime scenes, question witnesses and analyze evidence utilizing the latest in forensic equipment." The CSI: Miami game will include all the characters, including voiceover by the cast and will be customizable for players to adjust their skill levels. Oct 04 2004 - Emily Procter turns 36 on October 8th. Oct 04 2004 - USA Today's movie critic Robert Bianco has mentioned CSI several times in recent Q&A columns. In the September 27th column, a fan complained about CSI: Miami (and in particular, David Caruso's style of acting). Bianco replied "I agree that three shows is one too many, for my taste at least - though to judge from the ratings, most viewers disagree. Otherwise, though, I'm on the 'CSI' side. I don't think they're great shows, by any means. But I think they're very solid, entertaining, "B" grade TV shows. And I love David Caruso - always have." And in the October 4th column, a fan asked about Rory Cochrane's departure, to which Bianco said "According to the actor, he wanted to leave. Didn't like the work load or the lack of character development. So the show let him go. Oct 03 2004 - David Caruso and Adam Rodriguez, along with other celebrities, will be paying tribute to legendary musician Ray Charles on October 8th at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, CA. This event, Genius: A Night to Remember will be broadcast Friday, October 22nd at 9-10pm ET on CBS. Read the Press release for more details. Oct 03 2004 - A fan asked SouthFlorida.com why Rory Cochrane left the series. Their answer? "The official explanation for Cochrane's departure is "a mutual agreement" between him and the producers. This is generally a euphemism for some sort of problem. What really happened probably won't be revealed until someone gets loose lips at a cocktail party. A new character, played by Jonathan Togo, will join the cast this week. As for the original CSI, Eades and Fox are not going to be replaced. After their attempted power play for more money backfired and got them fired, they begged CBS to give them another chance. CBS President Les Moonves must have been in a good mood. He let them come back. Maybe he just wanted his shoes shined and car washed, two of the things Eades promised to do if the CBS boss relented." (Spelling errors are theirs...)

Oct 01 2004 - For more on new cast member JONATHAN TOGO, check out the following:
- Jonathan debuts as Ryan Wolfe in the October 4th episode Under the Influence.
- Check out Conquistadors. The site has one photo of Jonathan from the band, which the site says "Welcome to CMMM. Here you'll find a large assortment of exclusive pictures, music, and video featuring the seven drunken boxers who comprise Conquistador. Conquistador used to be known as "The El Conquistadors." However, after Jonathan Togo got back from his stint on the now-cancelled Special Unit 2, he declared that he would not work in any production that had (A) numbers or (B) grammatical errors in its title. So the name has been shortened. It's just as well; the guy at NYC's Elbow Room could never get it right, anyway."
- A Fan site has a transcript of a Special Unit 2 episode. Look for Jonathan, the alien expert, who is played by Jonathan Togo.
- A website on the film Mystic River said … "I should note that, unless I am much mistaken, Jonathan Togo, a local who has a miniscule part, was a student of mine in a summer program some years ago. He was talented then, when he wrote a wonderfully funny haiku about Bob Ross (the afro-wearing art guru). He's talented still, and I hope his work continues and expands exponentially."
- Zap2it.com says that Togo will play Ryan Wolfe, an officer hand-picked for the team by Horatio Caine. Wolfe is working toward his masters degree in genetics, which is bound to be helpful in the line of duty.
- E.T. Online said of Rory Cochrane's departure from the show… "Rory is not replaceable," said David Caruso. "What you don't do is attempt to replace him, you find an additional cast mate who is different. Rory will always be a large part of this show and was instrumental in why it was successful." And now, Jonathan Togo joins the cast. "I play Ryan Wolfe," Togo explains. "He is a patrolman who becomes a CSI. He has a background in science, so it interests him to join the group and behooves his personality to become part of an elite, crime-fighting unit." On the day that Entertainment Tonight visited the CSI: Miami set, they were filming the scene in which Horatio asks Wolfe to become a CSI. Caruso says "It is a big deal. It is a very interesting transition because there is a competitiveness between the two groups. In order for Ryan to make the leap into forensic science, he needs a little support and that is the purpose of this scene." Togo has been studying scientific dialogue, and the article said he's 'practicing his lab technique in his kitchen by pouring water from one glass to another as if they were beakers. He also showed up days before his first call to watch the rest of the cast in action, and he read a forensic book called Hard Evidence that the executive producer Ann Donahue gave him. Togo added, "My mother, my girlfriend and my father are all huge fans. So for them, it is really a dream come true, as it is for me."'
Jonathan Togo was profiled on Entertainment Tonight on September 30th. Cast members David Caruso and Sofia Milos both spoke highly of Togo. Caruso said "Jonathan is special. He's got some very interesting influences, a little bit of a Jake Gyllenhall, a little Dustin Hoffman." They showed clips of Togo, both in uniform and lab coat, as the actor joins the series this coming Monday. His character, who is both a cop and a geneticist, replaces Tim Speedle (Rory Cochrane) in the lab. He says the "multi-hyphenated words" are tough. A few years ago, he was bartending in NYC, then played in a band for several years, but acting is his main love. Sofia said "He's ready, he's available, and the ladies like a man who is available. We all wish him well." Togo said that everyone on the show has been "incredibly nice and welcoming."
Oct 01 2004 – The Sun-Sentinel reports that Broward County residents can submit photos to the Broward Alliance Film and Television. The commission would like the CSI: Miami people to realize that not all of the show need be shot in California. For more information on how to submit a photograph, call 954-627-0128 or go to www.browardalliance.org/film. Sep 30 2004 – Meanwhile, David Letterman said recently on his who… Ralph Nader "couldn't get into the debates in Florida, but here's good news, Nader will be making an appearance on 'CSI Miami' as a guest cadaver."

If he had only taken better care of his firearm, he would still be alive. Gosh, we silly viewers at home thought his death was the fault of the perp who shot him. Sloppy writing so soon in the season? A good reason to keep your fingers on the clicker." Sep 22 2004 - DavesIPAQ reports that Hewlett Packard is showcasing their technologies on various TV shows. Look for the iPAQ 500 series Pocket PCs on CSI: Miami. Sep 22 2004 – Rory Cochrane was interviewed recently at a fan site regarding his departure from CSI: Miami. As many viewers know, Tim Speedle met his demise due to malfunctioning gun. For Cochrane, leaving CSI:M was not an issue of money, but that he "didn't like someone having control of my life for most of the year." He wasn't particularly happy in the manner in which Speedle left the show, thinking his character's departure could have been handled in a more creative way. As for Speedle's failure to clean his gun? "I gotta be honest with you, I thought it was totally lame, but what can you do? It's not up to me." He talks about how much input he had into the show, if he keeps in touch with his former castmates (yes), and that he had initially turned down CSI:M, as he it his desire to do movies. It was in the first of CSI:M that he realized he'd rather leave the show, but after doing two years, the producers let him out of his contract. After Rory left the series, he made the movie A Scanner Darkly in Austin, Texas. You can read the full interview at CSIFiles. Sep 21 2004 - CBS won the night on Sunday when the Emmy aired, pulling in a 9.2 rating/15 share overall share, due in part to a CSI: Miami repeat of the episode "Slow Burn," which came in second for that hour slot. The show brought in an average of 22 million viewers and 8.0/20 share in the 18-49 adult demographic, according to preliminary estimates from Nielsen Media Research. In the 'ouch department,' a critic at the Albuequerque Tribune says …" But it's CSI: Miami that will bring a tear to your cynical eye. One of the regulars is gonna leave the show in a body bag. Now, I know who it's gonna be and so do a lot of Internet trollers. Should I tell ya? Huh? Do ya wanna know? You know ya wanna know. OK. I'll give you a hint. It's a guy. It's not David Caruso. And he's slow but he has a fast nickname. Personally I wish they'd have the medical examiner, played by Khandi Alexander, hit by a bus. The woman is creepy. If I see her pet another corpse's head and whisper, "How did you get here, honey?" I'm gonna hork. " Sep 20 2004 - Kingworld's press release states that A&E Network will begin airing CSI: Miami on a weekly basis this Fall. In Fall 2006, for the next two years, the series will appear Monday-Friday on A&E. In Fall of 2008, the off-network rights for CSI: Miami will become exclusive to A&E Network. Sep 04 2004 - The September 10th Entertainment Weekly (Fall TV preview) had this to say about the third season of CSI: Miami... that they will lose a cast member (it was reported here month ago that Rory Cochrane was leaving the show), that Jonathan Togo is joining the cast, that Horatio will reveal the identity of Madison's father to Yelina, and that Horatio and Stetler situation will get tense. Executive producer Ann Donahue said "These two go at it, and at the end there's a shoot-out. We're going to carry it over the full season, and probably there will be some violent resolution." The article concludes with 'In the third-season finale, Death visits Florida." (Which is sorta odd, as someone is always dying in every episode.) Aug 28 2004 - Emily Procter can currently be seen in a television ad for Colgate Max Fresh toothpaste, which has a sorta CSI twist. They do an extreme close-up into the toothpaste to show the little bits that freshen your breath, or something like that. Aug 06 2004 - The publicity is ramping up for CSI: Miami. Executive producer Ann Donahue acknowledges that the team will suffer a loss. "We're actually losing a beloved CSI. Can't tell you which one, but a CSI is going to die in the line of duty." Donahue said that they're looking at men and women for a replacement character. "You can create a character, and then you can see an actor that doesn't fit that at all and go, 'That's interesting. Let's go with that instead.'" Donahue also drops tidbits on upcoming episodes: they're crashing a boat into a bridge, causing a collapse. "There's an area in the Everglades where the bay meets the 'glades, where it's alligators and sharks. A kidnapped boy is left out there to die. We do see a shark kill a man. There's a drive-by Miami-style, which is guys on cigarette boats. It's an homage [to Miami Vice]." Meanwhile, Donahue says Horatio Caine's problems haven't gone away. Yelina still thinks he's the father of a child that actually belonged to her late husband, and she's busy dating an Internal Affairs officer who has opened up a file on Horatio. "He's looking, and if you look, if you put anyone under a microscope, the best person -- even a good cop -- there are going to be times they don't look good. They do things that are suspect, because a good cop will go a long way in furtherance of the victim. So the season's going to have a pretty big ending. All I can say is, episode 24." Full story at Zap2it.com. Aug 03 2004 - Tim Speedle bites the bullet (it seems) in the season three opener of CSI: Miami. While E.T. isn't spilling the beans on who dies, it is confirmed that Rory Cochrane is leaving the series to pursue films. In "Taps," there will be a funeral for a fallen officer, complete with flag-draped coffin and 21-gun salute. Adam Rodriquez, who plays Eric Delko, said "You spend this many hours with a group of people over the course of two years, you appreciate each other, you have a good time, you get used to each other and, beyond that, you build relationships. Unfortunately, the person who is leaving and I built a good friendship and certainly we will miss that person." Read the full details at ET Online. The company is using "psychological profiling -- rooting around the brains of potential gamers during focus sessions -- to broaden the appeal of its products," according to an article at the Vancouver Sun. Most games are made for 18-to-34 year old males, the hard core gamers, but this time, the company is reaching for a broader audience. Using the Kiersey Temperament Sorter (which many job seekers are familiar with), they've determined that four combinations applied from the choices or extroversion (E) or introversion (I); sensation (S) or intuition (N); thinking (T) or feeling (F); and perceiving (P) or judging (J). There are 16 possible combinations. With the CSI: Miami audience, it's broken down into those that enjoy the gore and violence, others who love the whole puzzle-solving side of it; the science, and lastly, a pseudo-education in forensics. It's the ESFJ's they're looking for. Click on the URL above, good for a day or so, to read the whole article. The plane will be computer generated said producer Scott Shiffman. However, the wreckage on the beach will be real, and that segment was shot on a beach in L.A.. About $500,000 was spent to bring the crew out from L.A. to shoot the scene, but also to shoot a scene from another episode in which a rapper's bodyguard is shot at a beachfront mansion. Actor David Caruso was at the mansion, but to the dismay of celebrity-seekers, not at the beach. Read more at the PalmBeachPost. Read more at the Independent. Mar 20 2004 - It looks like CSI: Miami is going to shoot part of the episode "Not Landing" location in Delray Beach, Florida. Mar 20 2004 - The newspaper AustralianNews had a very good article on CSI: Miami. It's doing very well in Australia, pulling in 2 million viewers a week. One of the reasons the show works so well is the location, as well as David Caruso's presence, "back in a role that really suits him." Glossing past the rest of the cast, the article says ... "But H [Horatio] is pretty much the focus. Tall, lean and weather-beaten, he epitomises cool and is tough in a way that eludes CSI: Crime Scene Investigation's rather dumpy William Petersen, whose appeal relies on being a brilliant and self-engrossed boffin, an enigma to those around him. H, on the other hand, seems relatively straightforward, although he is, as far as we know, a lone wolf. It is possible that behind closed doors minds are still at work on just how much of the Horatio they should reveal." Mar 01 2004 - Viewers probably notice product placement, but not this particular placement. Many Massachusetts-based companies are using CSI: Miami to showcase their wares, from as chromatograph mass spectrometers to centrifugal concentration units. By contributing the equipment, they boost employee morale and help the show, as well as raise profile of their wares. A marketing director points out that while a company can spend $10,000 on an ad in a scientific journal, it will be seen by 20,000 to 30,000 people, whereas if you put that equipment on CSI, it will be seen by 20 million viewers. Thermo Electron Corporation has supplied a variety of forensic equipment to the show: from an elevating transportable autopsy table ($2,500) to a cadaver lift ($14,000) to a downdraft autopsy table (about $15,000), that "suck fumes downward," as putrefying bodies are unpleasant. Salesmen for forensics equipment now visit more than just labs. One sales leader for PerkinElmer Inc. visited the set to show David Caruso how to use an infrared microscope. Read more at Boston.com. Feb 23 2004 - Living it Up with Ali and Jack went behind the scenes of CSI: Miami on their morning program. Jack went on the set, where Rory Cochrane talked briefly with him, mostly showing clips, and then talked with Emily Procter. They talked about the equipment (all brand-new and expensive) and she showed how her character tests guns (combined with clips from the show). Emily said "I don't know if I'm allowed to tell you this, but it somehow seems appropriate because of the Gatorade [in a tube]... a lot of the body parts are made out of food. A lot of time they make it out of chocolate. And it's awfully hard to be sad(?) when a person smells like chocolate. ... It's like 'don't lick the evidence!" Jack then went to the DNA lab and talked with Adam Rodriguez, who spoke about Eric Delko ... "he's basically the utility man on the show.... I get into all the science, the forensics. My other duty on the show is to be the action guy." He does a lot of his action stuff himself, but not stuff like the Everglades fire scene. Movie magic. What is David Caruso like? "David's great. He's a great guy, a perfectionist. He's just so passionate about getting everything right. ... [Emily] is as sweet as can be. She's just a sweetheart of a girl, southern to the core. North Carolina to the bone. I love it. She's great. She's a charmer." When Jack went back to talk to Emily about her accent, and how it gets "more syrupy" when she wants something, she laughed "I hope that's not true." She said a typical shooting day is between 12-16 hours, of that they spend a good "solid 90% on your feet." Will there be any romance on the show? "I try to make out with people all the time," she joked. Next, was behind the scenes with Sherri Montosanto-Metcalfe (sp), who has multiple Emmys for her make-up work. On Jack, she gave him a realistic bullet hole in the forehead. It would be great for Halloween. Feb 23 2004 - Khandi Alexander appeared on the Sharon Osbourne Show today. Sharon loves the way Khandi's character, Alexx Woods, treat the corpses (with respect) and commented that recently, she'd seen a lot of women coroners, but that some come across as cold. Khandi (pronounced candy) said that when she got the job on CSI: Miami, Elizabeth Devine introduced Khandi to her uncle, who is a famous coroner who has performed autopsies on John Belushi and Natalie Wood and "through him, I met several female coroners. And I tell you these women are really hot! I met this one in the L.A. office, she had long blonde hair to her waist, was wearing a miniskirt, high heels like this, you know, just sashaying around the morgue and doing her whole thing." Khandi finds it interesting, but "... has the best job on television because you have to understand, there are actors who are lying there [as corpses], and what I do I have a thing going on with the crew where I do my best to try to give them an erection." As the audience screamed in laughter, Khandi confirmed that she "doesn't touch anything" [private] but instead just pokes on the prothestics or the limbs "and the crew is putting five dollars in the tin can going 'you're not going to do it' and I get it, and the sheet is rising, and the director's like 'Cut! Cut!'" Before she started working on the show, she went to view a real autopsy. "The smell is overwhelming," she said. "It smells like an old butcher's... yeah, it smells like rotted meat, except that the body is fresh." She said the man doing the autopsy was eating a sandwich during the autopsy because to him, it's nothing. Sharon looked revolted. She said all the organs are made of silicone, to match the exact texture and weight, and they feel like the real thing. After the commercial break, Sharon and Khandi did an 'autopsy'. They were at a table with bits and pieces of whatnot, including what looked like a rotted arm, which came from either the shark attack or the alligator episode this season. She showed a skull portion used for filming. It's close to reality, but it's not real. Sharon fooled around briefly with the arm, and they tried to cut it, but the scalpels were fake (as a real one could hurt someone). She then showed how to do a fingerprint, and Sharon commented that Khandi started out as a dancer / choreographer, but would prefer not to go back to it as it's harder work than acting. Once Khandi got a print, she joked to Sharon "I got enough of it so that I could probably use it to set you up for a crime if I really wanted to." Khandi danced on Broadway for many years, and toward the end of her choreographer career, she choreographed Whitney Houston's World Tours. Sharon asked if Khandi likes to hang around at gay parades. Khandi laughed, but said last year she was judge at the gay parade, and decided because as a dancer, she'd lost so many friends to AIDS so she decided to do everything she could this last year for AIDS awareness, "especially in the gay community because, although I am not gay, many of my friends that I started with in the industry that I have now lost, were." And the Gay Parade has asked her to be on their float this year. Feb 10 2004 - Wonder precisely what sunglasses David Caruso wears? Newsday mentioned it in an article on sunglasses that said ... "Doesn't quite work with the uniform," a Midtown South officer replied to the Silhouette eyewear rep, who'd coaxed him into blue Jackie O sunglasses at the firm's booth at the tents. His partner preferred a cool rectangular pair in kiwi. Ultra-bendable, they've been seen on CSI: Miami's David Caruso - and he always solves his case. Feb 10 2004 - SMH.com reviewed a recent CSI: Miami episode, and commented "David Caruso is good, - almost as good as Law & Order's Vincent D'Onofrio - when it comes to interrogation cool. Feb 08 2004 - Rory Cochrane was profiled in the February 6-8th USAWeekend magazine. A reader asked if Rory did voiceovers, to which the response was "No, and when we spoke, he sounded tired, because he'd been working round-the-clock on new episodes. He may be touted as one of TV's sexiest men, but Cochrane, 31, says, "I could get to the gym more often." Usually drawn to bad guy roles, he says he had to act tough in the Queens, NY neighborhood in which he grew up. "Gang members would get on the subway and start robbing people," he says. "If you acted scared, they would come and take your stuff." Feb 07 2004 - CSI Miami was mentioned in an article on how powerful advertisers are insinuating their products into the actual television show. This was once considered off-limits, but now is a common-place and, at times, annoying practice. You can see Ford vehicles in 24, a VW beetle on Smallville. CBS has said it remains open to product placement on script shows. The article went on to state that AIM Productions, a New York-based product placement concern, helped arranged the "ongoing appearances of General Motors Corp.'s Hummer H2 in episodes of CBS' CSI: Miami." Read the full article at the Star-Telegram. Feb 06 2004 - How accurate is CSI: Miami when compared to the real thing. Police Sergeant Stephen Miller detailed the inaccuracies:
- Is the real CSI Bureau as tight knit as portrayed on the show? This area is probably the only one that even comes close to reality. The 29 police officers assigned to the MDPD Crime Scene Investigations Bureau are a highly trained group of people who are, in fact, a fairly cohesive unit.
- How many crime scenes does the bureau investigate annually? 2003 statistics show that the major crimes unit handled 1,790 major crime scenes, including 118 homicides, 122 rapes, 110 suicides, 325 deaths, 21 police-involved shootings, 784 robberies, 49 narcotics cases, five kidnappings and 91 shootings.
- CSI Miami has a ton of technology. What about a real life? The technology in the forensic field is changing rapidly. The MDPD invests millions of dollars each year in an effort to keep pace, especially in DNA processing techniques. However, budget restraints are a reality, and the technology portrayed on TV is often a far cry from what is available. [The TV version of technology] either does not even exist or is portrayed in a very distorted manner.
- What's the most realistic thing about the show? Miller says the show has little basis in fact. The writers for "CSI: Miami" have personally interviewed me at great length regarding how crime scenes are processed. It is, in fact, a lengthy, methodical, painstaking and often tedious process that is not suitable for a television audience. Therefore, the Hollywood version is much more interesting."Real" CSI personnel do not interview people, make arrests or drive Hummers. Miller added that few personnel watch the show, except for comic relief (ouch). And that many people want to be a CSI in Florida, but don't realize that to do so, you must become a uniformed police officer first. Read the full article at AmericanCityandCounty.

Feb 01 2004 - Adam Rodríguez appeared in People en Español's March 2003 issue. The article was entitled "Los 25 Famosos y sin Compromiso" -- literally "25 Famous & Without Commitment." The English translation is:
ERRANT GENTLEMAN
In his house, this actor of Cuban & Puerto Rican ancestry was taught well: open the door for a lady, pull out her chair when she sits. Basic education? Yes, sure. But also advice that separates the men from the gentlemen. In the case of Rodríguez, 28 years old and part of the program CSI Miami, we are left with any one of the two.
Q: Which actress would you give a "yes" to with your eyes closed?
A: To Sophia Loren. She is elegant, beautiful, sexy. Raquel Welch is not a bit bad, either. I like older women.
Q: Which woman marked your life?
A: My mother left her outline for the woman I will eventually marry. I've learned a lot about women, although I still don't understand them.
Q: Are you totally loyal when you are in a relationship?
A: Yes, totally. That is why I'm not in one now and have not been in one for some time. I am not ready to be loyal, but when I am in a relationship it's different.
Q: Who are more sincere: men or women?
A: Women are better liars, but are also more sincere.
Q: Do you think that one can in love with two women at one time?
A: I don't think it would be impossible, but I hope that I never have that problem.
(Thanks to Leanna for the tip/translation)Feb 01 2004 - The New York Daily News had an article on actors who leave TV for movies and listed David Caruso under the, um, failure category... "What's it like to symbolize failure? Ask "NYPD Blue's" Caruso, who scorned his successful show to become a movie star. Ten years later, he's lucky to have a job on "CSI: Miami." [Only the top new show on TV.... ] Jan 23 2004 - Adam Rodriguez appeared on the syndicated Sharon Osbourne Show. Adam had no experience with SCUBA diving until he worked on CSI: Miami. He said once while shooting on location in the Everglades, he got out of the water and there was this "at least eight feet" alligator that was in the water where he had just been. When asked, he said he had no ideas of the difference between crocodiles and alligators (part of it is the way the jaw clamps shut and the size of the snout). Also, Adam was in an early Jennifer Lopez video ("If you have my love") Jan 18 2004 - CSI: New York's 'pilot' will be shown as an episode of CSI: Miami in May 2004. Jan 16 2004 - Waste not, want not. On January 18th, the 15-storey Harbour House North rental high-rise will be imploded at 8:00 a.m. It will take a few months to clean up the mess, but word is out that CSI: Miami will film the implosion for possible final use in a future episode. (Episode: "Witness to Murder") Jan 01 2004 - Just like Gil Grissom on CSI is based on a real-life CSI, so is Horatio Caine. Former Los Angeles police detective John Haynes, who now resides in the Venetian Isles in northeast St. Petersburg, Florida, is a full-time consultant to CSI: Miami. Haynes has worked in a gang unit, then went undercover to do surveillance of prison gangs, and eventually joined the bomb squad. An explosion ended that career, but led to his new one. Along with his wife, a former nurse who now serves as an assistant to Elizabeth Devine, Haynes was delighted to help. He had worked with Elizabeth Devine on several cases and became friends. Consulting involves a lot of talking, as well as the executives picking his brains for life experiences and detail. He also helps the actors, and enjoys working with David Caruso. Horatio Caine is loosely based upon Haynes. Haynes would still be a cop, he says, if it hadn't been for the bomb incident. However, he's adjusted to the cross-country traveling he does as a consultant. Read the full story online at St Petersburg Times.
