  1. Why was Piper freaking out after she learned that she was a witch?

Piper saw a program about a woman named Mary Estee (1.02), who claimed to be innocence of the charge of witchcraft, and than was reported to be struck down by a bolt of lightning. The court in Mary Estee's case, claimed that God had spoken, forbidding the witch from even entering his house [a church]. After that Piper begins to wonder if her powers may be the work of evil and not good. She spends most of the rest of the episode (1.02), trying to figure out whether her powers are a blessing or curse, by talking to the Pastor, Phoebe and reading through the Book of Shadows. She finally walks into a church to see if she will be struck down too and realizes she is good when nothing happens to her.

  2. What was the inscription on the knife that killed Hecate?

The knife was, by Prue's analysis (1.06), a 14th century Italian jewelled poignard that said NEC PRIUS ABSISTIT QUOAD PROTERO PRODIGIUM on the blade. Translated from Latin, the inscription means, "I shall not rest until the demon is vanquished."

  3. What Shakespeare play did Leo and Melinda quote?

Up in Phoebe's room (1.09), Leo starts by saying, "I earn that I eat, get that I wear..." and Melinda continues, "...own no man hate, envy no man's happiness." This is from Shakespeare's play "As You Like It" act 3, scene 2.

  4. Did Piper use her power for personal gain in the first episode?

This refers to when Piper is cooking for Chef Moore and he enters the kitchen before she is finished with the sauce for her dish. As he gets ready to taste Piper's incomplete meal, Piper freezes him. While not quite understanding why Chef Moore is frozen, she adds some of the port to the meat before he unfreezes. Even though Piper technically gained from this, by getting the job, she did not intentionally use her power for personal gain. In fact, Piper was unaware that she has the power to freeze objects and people at this point. Chef Moore's freezing can be looked as an accident or a subconscious reaction to the situation, but not a conscious effort on Piper's part to use her powers for personal gain. Anything done after she learned about her power can be absolutely considered personal gain, because she use the power fully knowing what she was doing. But in this one instance it is not really personal gain because she has no prior knowledge of this resource to use for personal gain.

  5. What was said during Leo and Piper's hand fasting?

The following is the entire hand fasting (or the wedding ceremony) for Leo and Piper's wedding that occurred at the of episode 3.15:

Grams: (clears throat) We are gathered here today, to unite two souls as one. Do you Leo Wyatt and Piper Halliwell, join us here of your own free will to acknowledge the eternal bond shared by both of you?

    Leo: I do.

    Piper: I do.

Grams: You may face each other. Join hands. Ah, Leo you may recite your vows.

Leo: Piper, through all the tears and struggles, I always knew in my heart that we would make it here. I promise, to love and respect you from this point forward as your husband. As my wife, my lover, my friend and my soul mate, all I am - is yours.

    Grams: Piper...

Piper: Leo, (clears throat) you are the best thing that has ever happened to me. I was afraid you were too good too be true and maybe I didn't deserve someone so pure and beautiful and loving as you are. But here were are, surrounded by the people I love the most and I feel so proud and so blessed to be your wife. Leo, I was born to love you. And I always will.

Grams: (sighs) Here, before witnesses, Leo and Piper have sworn their vows to each other. With this cord, I bind them to those vows.

(a cord magically snakes around Leo and Piper's joined hands, lightly binding them together)

Leo and Piper: Heart to thee, body to thee, always and forever, so mote it be.

    Grams: So mote it be.

    Everyone: So mote it be.
