I offer two core courses vital to the liberal arts student:

PHYSICAL GEOGRAPHY (Geog 001) Class Code=V0687
Physical geography studies the processes at work in the physical environment in order to understand the earth as the home of people. Physical geography shows how everything connects to everything else. It pulls together several natural sciences.

• Geology - Landscapes, earthquakes, volcanoes, landslides, floods, etc.
• Meteorology - How the weather machine works
• Climatology - Why global climate regions differ, their opportunities and limitations
• Ecology - Environmental issues, global warming, desertification, rain forests, etc.

Physical geography is a science class which many students find difficult. However, we offer a lot of help in the form of Web Learning Modules, computer tutorials, study guides, visual materials, and Web exploration.

PHYSICAL GEOGRAPHY LAB (Geog 001L) Class Code=V0887
Physical geography is a prerequisite or co requisite to the physical geography lab. It meets the lab requirements for transfer to a four-year college. This is a one unit course for 3 hours of lab work each week. The class uses the computer lab, Room 323, to access Web resources and geographic information systems (GIS). GIS is a computer-based mapping tool and is one of the ten fastest growing job opportunities for students.

WORLD REGIONAL GEOGRAPHY (Geog 003) Class Code=V0688
World Regional Geography explores the cultural, economic, and political aspects of major world regions. It asks the questions: Where is it? Why is it there? Why should I care? It emphasizes such current issues as:

• Globalization - Economic and cultural interdependence
• Rich nations, poor nations
• World population growth
• Devolution - The break up of nations
• Urbanization

World regional geography uses short video case studies of current issues, slides, Web exploration to help build geographic literacy, and lots of maps. There is plenty of opportunity for class discussion. World regional geography meets the social science requirement for college transfer.
