EXPERIENTIAL EDUCATION

This educational methodology is based on the educational philosophy of John Dewey, who believed that a student was more apt to retain what he has learned by actually "doing it"....and then reflecting upon his experience. Click here for a more comprehensive definition. Here is another site with several more EXPERIENTIAL LINKS.

CRYSTAL LINKS

This thought provoking site has links to hundreds of webpages that focus on myriad esoteric topics - literally from A to Z. Highly recommended

GNOSTICISM

Astute readers of Philip K. Dick are aware that gnostic themes permeate several of his later novels - notably THE THREE STIGMATA OF PALMER ELDRITCH and VALIS. Gnosticism, and an ancient rival of Christianity which emphasizes actual experience and personal revelation, is currently enjoying a 20th Century revival as evidenced by the works of Dick and motion pictures like THE MATRIX. Though GNOSIS MAGAZINE ceased publication earlier this year, their website still serves as a valuable resource regarding the "Western Inner Tradion."

GURDJIEFF

This Middle Eastern philosopher/mystic was considered by some to be a madman and a charlatan. Others considered him to be the wisest man of his time. Notable followers included P.D. Ouspensky, J. G. Bennett and Maurice Nicoll whose lucid commentaries are an indispensable guide to "The Work".

THEOSOPHY

A syncretistic blending of Eastern and Western thought founded by the controversial and enigmatic Helena Petrovna Blavatsky. Her monumental work, ISIS UNVEILED (1888), is a veritable goldmine of arcana. For an entertaining and adventurous introduction to theosophical thought, check out OM, THE SECRET OF AHBOR VALLEY, by Talbot Mundy.

ANTHROPOSOPHY

Founded by Rudolf Steiner, this offshoot of Theosophy is directly responsible for the Waldorf movement in education. A notable follower of Steiner and close friend of C.S. Lewis and J.R.R Tolkien ("Inklings!), Owen Barfield wrote tirelessly promoting anthroposophical thought in classic works which include POETIC DICTION and SAVING THE APPEARANCES.

C. G. JUNG

This early disciple of Freud (and latterday gnostic), became the founder of the Jungian School of "depth psychology". Has had major influence on artistic and cultural movements worldwide. Notable devotees include Edward Edinger, June Singer and the late American mythologist, Joseph Campbell.

ALCHEMY
