Welcome to Richard Navarrete's Web Page of
Astronomy and Astrophotography

I'm a Music teacher and Amateur Astronomer who lives in Oakland, CA.  I enjoy observing with my Obsession 18" dob and a TeleVue 101 refractor on a Gibralter mount.  For a time I was interested in film based astrophotography and used the TV 101 on both a Losmandy GM8 mount and a G11.  I've since decided to abandon astrophotography, but I've got some of my images posted on this web page.

I recently completed observing the Herschel 400 list.  You can find my complete log in Word format here.  I put together a list of my favorite 111 objects along with short descriptions.  You can find this list here or at Ray Cash's Deep Space Web Page.

Here are my first pictures with the Televue 101 refractor!

Messier Marathon time is in the spring. Here is a checklist of the objects and the order that they should be observed.

I am a member of TAC - The Astronomy Connection - a group of observers from the San Francisco Bay Area. If you live in the Bay Area, this is a good place to go to find out about local observers and star parties.

If you have questions about astrophotography, or would like to leave a comment, please send E-mail to Richard Navarrete .
