1999 Rocky Mountain Rendezvous
Ouray, Colorado

Pictures from the Rocky Mountain Rendezvous near  Ouray Colorado August 16-20, 1999. Thanks to Fred Coldwell, Gregg Coffin, and Carl Buckingham for putting the event on. And thanks to all those that participated, helping make it so much fun!

Heading up a pass just south of Ouray, Colorado on Wednesday August 18, 1999.

Lyle Van Wert's Perkins Diesel with 11.00-16 Michelins, Fred Coldwell riding shotgun.

Chris Willsey's ½ ton lwb V8 taking it nice and easy. Great little "farm truck".

Carl Buckingham's "WC elevendy three" leads a group under a rock ledge. Herb Hobi talks with Chris Willsey about his very straight ½ ton "farm truck".

Lyle Van Wert's Perkins Diesel chugged up everything he steered toward. (A little tough to follow on the trail.) George Bryant's Ram 250 is seen behind the m37.

Pete Wagner looks out over the edge. Nice truck with utility bed.

Drew Reed, son Nile, Don Evans, and Bob Evans in the cargo box. Don and Drew did a great job on this V8 conversion! 4-wheel disc, power steering, hydraulic clutch, 4:89's and retained the PTO for the winch. One of the cleanest conversions I have seen.

Perkins diesel M37 climbs the trail among the wild flowers, Lyle, Fred, and Bob Evans are treated to a beautiful view across the basin.

Taking a break along the trail. Beautiful scenery, new friends, and great old Dodge trucks.

All smiles at the top of the trail! (L-R) Gayle Baxter, Hal Woods, Rob Kiser, Fred Coldwell, Herb Hobi, Chris Willsey, Lyle Van Wert, Don Evans, Drew Reed, and Jim Pace.

M37's at Yankee Boy Basin

(L-R)Hal Woods' bone stock flathead, Lyle Van Wert's Perkins Diesel, Drew Reed's Dodge V8

(L-R) Jim Pace, Hal Woods and Gayle Baxter atop Yankee Boy Basin. Hal and Gayle were in Japan in '45 with USMC and later in Korea. Terrific trail companions. Hal knows every piece of this M37 and can drive it like most "four wheelers" only dream about. Sleeping on the ground in a pup tent and full of energy at the end of the trail. I can only hope to be that full of life at 74!

Hal Woods nearly stock M37 never missed a beat! (Electric fuel pump is a must at these altitudes, and lock-out hubs are nice when DRIVING this baby down from Denver.) Rob Kiser looks out from cargo box while Gayle Baxter navigates. CJ7 from Texas follows, with Terry and sons Jody and Mike.

Greg Coffin's '62 Power Wagon. The white hexagon on the side cowling in front of driver door is the Rocky Mountain Hard Corp logo, a copy of the bolt head with the DPCD…Dodge Plymouth Chrysler, Desoto…as used on many of these trucks. (Lines across picture are courtesy of Wal Mart's film developer.)

Brendan Coffin in "his" truck. A child's seat never looked better than in this Power Wagon.

(L-R) Lyle Van Wert and Carl Buckingham enjoy a few smiles over "Mad Max" the diesel M37. Lyle found it in a lot in inner city (Hamtramck)Detroit.

Townies! Chris Sayer converted a yellow 4x2 to a ¾ ton 4x4 with a 315 truck, hemi just in time to drive out from Texas. Don Sayer's old faithful big block is nosed up to Chris's truck. They were joined on the trail by John Geidel's panel for some real serious trail climbing. No shortage of Power Wagon go-anywhere toughness with these units! Gary Godkin's new dually camper makes it home away from home and is enjoyed by many.

Frank Irons towed out another "big block" beauty from Wisconsin! The front hubs for the disc brakes were milled out of solid billet. There are very impressive details on this truck.

Treasures we found sitting in a field on the way home.
