Even a lineage like that of the Bury St. Edmunds Bonds, which over the years has become one of the most thoroughly researched lines around, will have astonishing errors and gaps. This page is a mix of fresh research and a lot of trust in what others have found about how they are related to the Bonds. Please note that the Bond part of the line is not royal in any way. Their wives have sometimes had some sort of royalty among their ancestors, but only from branches which were several generations removed from wealth or prestige.

William Bond (b. 03 Sep 1625, Bury St. Edmunds, Suffolk, England; d. 14 Dec 1695) Moved to Watertown MA in 1630 w. Ephraim Child. (Please, no jokes about his being 'with Child'.... (more about Child, below)
Served in various public offices in Watertown, including selectman, Town Clerk and Justice Of the Peace. He started by farming and marketing greens, but his main private job (at which he made a good living) was as financial advisor /accountant /lawyer for estate planning and execution. Starting in 1679, he was on the governing board that rebuilt Lancaster MA after it was destroyed by Indians. This led in 1686 to a role on the Governing Board for the settlement of Worcester Co. MA. He was Speaker of the General Court in MA, 1691 to death.

Bury St. Edmunds is in western Suffolk. Woolpit is several miles east of BStE, barely south of the current A14 road, a bit less than halfway to Stowmarket, just west of Haughley. Jonas married Rose in 1588 in Rattlesden, her hometown, several miles south of Woolpit, not particularly noted for anything. They apparently lived in Rattlesden parish until the fall of 1590, when they moved to BStE. There was no record of a previous marriage for either Jonas or Rose; it would likely have been noted if it were otherwise. There is an on-line report of a Margaret Bond in the BStE area, born before 10 Dec 1600, unlisted parents, if so, she would come right after Elizabeth.

Abraham's son George appears to be the last one to stay a long time in Rattlesden; the last non-funeral record of the Woode family is his daughter Elizabeth's birth in 1636 and his son George's wedding. Abraham's son George is listed as the son of "Abraham & Anne", which is incorrect, prob. carried over from surrounding records.

There are several unmatched Wood(e) people in the burial records : Alice (d. 13 Aug 1648); Hen Wood (d. 29 Jan 1662)(poss. misspelled of 'Woods'). There are two Elizabeth Wood : d. 22 Aug 1670 and d. 07 Jul 1662; but which Elizabeth does each refer to, Abraham's granddaughter, George's daughter, an unlisted daughter of one of George's other children (odds are strong that at least one Elizabeth, probably several, was among them)? The church records do not tell.
