P: presiding minister; A: Liturgical assistant(s); C: Those gathered for worship.
P: In the name of the Father, of the [+] Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
C: Amen.
A: Our help is in the name of the Lord
C: who made heaven and earth.
A: I said, 'I will confess my wrongs unto the Lord',
C: then God forgave my most evil sin.
P: Almighty God,
All: You know all of our desires, our deepest thoughts and longings;
we are not able to hide any secret from You.
We ask that Your Holy Spirit cleanse us and change us,
that we may love you completely and be as You want us to be,
through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.
P: If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves,
and the truth is not in us.
But if we confess our sins,
God, who is faithful and just,
will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
(Kneel; or, if kneeling space is not available, stand and bow the head.)
(Silence for meditation on what you have specifically done which demands repentance. Turn it over to the Lord.)
(Before the next prayer, all - including the minister - turn toward the cross at (or in back of) the altar.)
All :
Most merciful God,
we confess that we have sinned against you
in thought, word, and deed,
by what we have done, and by what we have left undone.
We have not loved you with our whole heart;
we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves.
We are sorry, and now turn away from our sin before you.
For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ,
have mercy on us and forgive us,
that we may joyfully obey your will
and walk in Your ways
to the glory of your Name. Amen.
P: Jesus says : Where are your accusers? Has noone condemned you?
Neither do I condemn you! Go, and sin no more!
C: Amen.
