| | Individual psychotherapy has been around for more than 100
years. But like most everything, it has evolved and changed as therapists
learn more about what they are doing. My brand of therapy is eclectic,
meaning that I try to fit the "method" to the needs of the
client. I stopped calling my clients "patients" a number of
years ago when I started seeing therapy as a journey of discovery through the
psyche rather than as a treatment for a medical disorder. The
method I am most comfortable with combines a cognitive behavioral therapy within
a psychodynamic framework. However, I have not found it valuable to tell
my clients this nor to use other forms of "psychobable". Rather,
I have found it valuable to spend time helping clients use therapy in a
practical way to improve their lives. You may already assume that people
use individual therapy to help with
Anxiety and depression
Addictions and eating disorders
Grieving and loss
Trauma and abuse
Co-dependency
But did you know that you can apply the same psychological principles to help
you achieve more at work?
Become a more effective manager
Engage your work more completely
Give up "work place paranoia"
Guide your own career
Position yourself for equal opportunity
Or to improve your relationships?
Teaching others to respect your boundaries
Getting teens to talk to you
Sharing feelings with your partner
Managing your anger without "swallowing" it
Psychology can be applied to every aspect of life. Counseling or
"coaching" as it is sometimes called, can help you understand how best
to apply it to improve your life.
I enjoy helping people discover how to use therapy so please feel free to
contact me to ask a question, schedule a courtesy appointment, or to give me
feedback.
