The Innkeeper at Calvary At Calvary beneath the cross, he stood amongst the crowd, "You're mistaken my countrymen, let him go!" he wanted to shout aloud. "He's the Lord, the Saviour, the Son of God!" but his cries were all in vain For our dear Jesus was there on the cross suffering grief and pain.
With tears in his eyes he thought of the day, thirty three years ago When a man and his wife came and asked for a room and he'd had to tell them no. The woman was heavy with child, he saw, and looked so tired and forlorn So in his stable he let them stay, and baby Jesus was born.
This same Jesus now hung in pain, high on Calvery hill. Throughout his life he'd lived perfectly and was always proclaiming Gods' will. He's raised men from the dead and made sick men well, nobody can deny The power he uses comes from above, yet still for his blood they cry.
As Jesus died the great earth shook and darkness fell around. In Josephs tomb they buried our Lord, his still body in soft linen bound. So the Innkeeper went back to Bethlehem, his eyes still red with tears Thinking of all the great miracles Jesus performed through the years
A week passed by in bethlehem,a traveller brought the news, "The tomb is empty, he has overcome death, he is the King of the Jews!" The Innkeeper heard and was overjoyed, his heart was filled with delight. He knew the Lord had come to the earth when he saw Him that first starry night. Jan © The midi playing here is I Stand All Amazed, Hymn 193 in the LDS Hymn Book I stand all amazed at the love Jesus offers me, Confused at the grace that so fully He proffers me. I tremble to know that for me He was crucified, That for me, a sinner, He suffered, He bled and died. Oh, it is wonderful that He should care for me enough to die for me! Oh, it is wonderful, wonderful to me. I marvel that he should descend from His throne divine, To rescue a soul so rebellious and proud as mine, The He should extend His great love unto such as I, Sufficient to own, to redeem, and to justify. Oh, it is wonderful that He should care for me enough to die for me! Oh, it is wonderful, wonderful to me. I think of His hands pierced and bleeding to pay the debt, Such mercy, such love, and devotion can I forget? No, no, I will praise and adore at the mercy seat, Until at the glorified throne I kneel at His feet. Oh, it is wonderful that He should care for me enough to die for me! Oh, it is wonderful, wonderful to me. Text and music Charles H Gabriel, 1856-1932 |
