15 Minutes of Fame (and they spelled my name right)

Updated 12/23/98

MacNN: Bob Rabun describes how he was able to install Mac OS 8.5 on his PPC upgraded Performa 475. An included table also provides Mach Gestalt numbers for upgraded machines.

RJL: 8.5 on 68040 LINKS : Bob Rabun's 8.5 on '040/'030 Macs web page

Macintouch: • Installer override hacks http://www.macintouch.com/m85_links.html

MacFixIt: Bob Rabun has another such Web page - which also covers installing Mac OS 8.5 on other 680x0 machines.

Lowend Mac: Q605 Special Resources.

8.5 on Quadra 950 with PPC Upgrade: This is a Japanese site that refers to my page.

Running MacOS 8.5 on a 68K Mac with a PPC Upgrade Card: Someone archived the original page that I posted on the subject

More Fame on 8.5.1 (and Webintosh botched the name)

Webintosh: Bob Rohan wrote us to tell how he upgraded to OS 8.5.1 on a Performa 465 that had been upgraded to a PowerPC 601 running at 100 MHz. His letter gives some detail on how he accomplished this.

Macsurfer: "Upgrading to OS 8.5.1 on a PPC Upgraded 68k" Webintosh.

MacFixit: (Go all the way to the bottom of the page.)

I also made MacNN and MRP. I'll wait until they roll off the front page to add a permenant URL.

And Again When the Localized (International) 8.5.1 Updates came out:

MacLand has this: Visit Bob Rabum's page at http://members.aol.com/robertotec/mac/macos85hack.html for info on the MacOS 8.5 hack that allows installation on "Unsupported" PPC upgrades. (Mis-spelled again, but not as bad as Webintosh.)

Here's an example of the strange things you come up with searching the Internet.
