THUMBNAIL SKETCHES
(Fascade for the New Hope "Phantoms Manor" Haunted Attraction)

A quick example of thumbnail sketches that start the design process
(Basically something easy to fax)

funhouse-sketch_cleaned CLEANED WORKING DESIGN

(Actually for a FunHouse at the same location)
There are More higher-tech looking sketches under "Engineering Drawings etc." but this is a pretty good example of what I use to build from.
Autocad's great mostly because you can change a design quickly ..but I've had all these pencils piled up since the 80's and gotta use'em somehow. :)
ARCHITECHTURAL MODEL
(NewHope "Phantoms Manor" Fascade)

We Havn't actually been using the models as a sales-tool as much as just something to keep everybody in sync.
When you have 4 teams of people building and painting and wiring etc. it's so much nicer to just be able to "Point" to where you need something.
(Alot of people are really bad at looking at drawings etc.)
Figured I'd show-off the back.
In the End the whole project really got scratched in preference to "a great big sign instead" :) FrEaKiN LOL
(but hey at least i got this cool model ...geez)
BUT! ..it "Was" a smart decision ..And this year they had the carpenters throw together a half-sized flatter version of this (..thing is I painted it mostly brown and y'know ..when you paint a boxy version of this brown and eliminate some windows it looks alot like the unibomber-cabin) .....(umm ..."HaunteD unibomber cabin") . . . . . .. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . ........... ..................... . . . . . .

ARCHITECTURAL MODEL (NewHope "Phantoms Manor" Main Building)

We had to put over 150 4x8 ft. modular wall panels into this place to create a 15 room haunted house and I wasn't going to have One Aspect Unmeasured since we were doing the primary design 100 miles away.
(Every Outlet, Every Cieling-Joist, Every Electrical-Panel)
I even ended-up making the 150 miniature panels with little pins sticking out of the bottom of them that the designer ended-up using to design the layout more than autocad etc.
(surprisingly the model wound-up having accuracy to within a 1 ft. at the end of a string of 20 panels ..it wasn't really planned to be thAt accurate.)

CIL MEDIU

MODEL SPACESHIP
(Scratch Built from every piece of plastic I could find)

HAH! I Finally have an excuse to show this off.
After Star-Wars didn't Every kid build a 5 ft. illuminated model space ship from 100's of broken model parts and toys??
(This one ended-up in CineMagic issue 36, page 24)
ahhh the old days ..on mom and dad's dime and lots of time.

I gotta go on about this a little even though it's a fuzzy 80's polaroid pic it IS one of the more fun projects.
Something I did in high-school while I was making crappy little 8mm films (yes..film).. (yes crappy) .. ( ...ok ok very crappy) (BUT the models were good)
It's pointing to the left and the pic is looking at the back-end engine framework.
The model included parts from the moonbase-alpha model set, That's the black shell of an airplane altimeter on the end there (engine output), in front of that you can just make-out the pod from a space-shuttle-model, white round radar from a micronaut space-tubes-toy, frame from a large-scale Gi-Joe helocopter toy, creamer below the pod, black rubber tube from a desk-chair, display base of linberg-line ufo-model underneath and towards the front (radar dish), another rectangular dish in front of that actually from a Gi-Joe Rover toy, lots and lots of rectangles of sheet-styrene, lots and lots and LOTS more parts.

I finally have a couple projects like this coming up again ..sort of a combination of architectural modeling and scratch-building.

DISPLAY MODELS
(Dixie City Jam - Promotional Display Model)

I think I have an image of this in another section with the sub being airbrushed in the spraybooth.
Basically I grew up making model kits, so now when I build a larger display I treat it like an oversized model.. fabricating the parts first.. then assembling.. then painting etc.

DISPLAY MODELS
(Howard Stern Live Signing)

A couple buildings for the backround of the Howard Stern promotion which locked-up traffic in Philadelphia for the entire day (Alot of businesses are Still mad at us about that).
The buildings pretty much got pushed aside but i pretty much expected that :)
It was a good design though ..Howard's book display in the center ...sky backround with New York on one side and Philadelphia on the other. (The building on the left is a simplified Empire State building and the other two are the Liberty Place buildings in Center-City-Philadelphia.)
They're pretty good looking design , and btw Everybody get's their design wrong in illustrated ads etc. ..too bad ..nice geometry.
