A computer-designed sewing pattern


This pattern describes a basic dome-shaped parachute suitable for use in model and high-power rockets.

The pattern is ellipsoidal in shape (the top half of an oblate spheroid for you math wizzes). This shape is created by sewing together eight or ten gores, which are formed like triangles with the sides bowed outward. A "spill hole" in the center strengthens the chute and improves stability of descent.
