In 1910, they bought the Wagner house, an imposing 10 room brick home with over 4,000 square feet of floor space, five bedrooms, and ten fireplaces The house was donated to the Johnson County Historical Society by the daughters after the death of their parents. He was asleep in a barn when found by an old Jewish man who owned a sawmill near Morrillton in Pope Co., AR and put him to work there. The Jewish man and his wife all but adopted Wade, schooled him, and respected his Christian upbringing. Wade left at age 20 and preached in different towns and churches until he decided to settle down to become a school teacher. He was offered a teaching position in Smyrna, AR, but before school began, he traveled to Marshall to make contact with his father and siblings. There he met his future wife at a reunion of his mother's family, the Raglands. Besides being pretty and only a year younger than Wade, she was to teach the next year in the same school as Wade. He was drafted for WW I, and married MYRTLE CORDELIA GODFREY on 1 Nov 1917 in Morrillton, AR before shipping out to war 24 Jun 1918. She was a daughter of Alva and Dorcus (Ragland) Godfrey, and was more than a foot shorter than Wade (4'11" to his 6'1"). Wade and Myrtle were second cousins once removed; with William and Elizabeth (Bounds) Ragland as their common ancestor. After the war, their school was closed and jobs were scarce, so they made a living picking crops across Arkansas and in California through the 1920s, 30s and 40s. Wade ministered the gospel while picking crops and returned to Arkansas to become minister of a church in Center Valley. He had a photographic memory of the Bible and delighted in debating the Bible with other ministers. He was diagnosed with cancer in the early 1960's and died in Little Rock, AR on 12 May 1967 after years of pain. He is buried in Russellville, AR near Center Valley in the old Liberty cemetery, next to his devoted wife, Myrtle who joined him in glory on 30 Dec 1990.
