Helping One Dog at a Time.If you are interested in acquiring an English Mastiff from a private party see below on our page. If you are interested in adopting (or placing) an English Mastiff through Mastiff Club of America please go to the MCOA National web page MCOA Rescue/Placement Service. This page has the latest info on the adoption process, area contacts, Regional Web pages, etc. Another organization specializing in the rescue of English and Neopolitan Mastiffs is the Canine Rescue Coalition.. If you are interested in what it is like to live and play with a few English Mastiffs (including two adopted from Rescue) you might want to visit our home page COMSTOCK MASTIFFS - 2002. We will also try to provide occasional updates or stories of dogs we have placed. These Updates will initially be in the Recent Announcements Section and then moved after a week or two to an Adopted Dog Update Section at the bottom of this page. Feel free to keep in touch. RONTOBIN@aol.com We are always interested in knowing how our Rescue dogs are doing with their new families. Caroline talked to her new owner, Paul, last evening to see how Annie was settling in. She is doing fine. Paul is quite happy with her-described Annie as awesome. We will keep in touch and hopefully provide some updates with pictures.Dec. 27, '02 - We are Up & Running Again - Mastiff Needs a Home. Those of you who regularly follow this page are probably aware that the page has not been updated in over 6 months (last update was June 6). The primary reason for the page inactivity was that on June 8th our Mastiff bitch, Calli, gave birth to 10 puppies-three days early. These pups, of course, kept us very busy but they also meant that Caroline was not doing any Shelter volunteer work until the pups had their shots and were placed in their new homes. The possibility of bringing home some disease from the Shelter was high and we didn't want to risk our pups health. That meant no new Adoptions to report until Caroline returned to her weekly volunteer service. That date slipped a bit from the Sept. time frame originally anticipated to a planned return to Shelter volunteering on Jan. 8, 2003.Annie Needs a Home. Before Caroline could even get back to the Shelter we got a call about a an English Mastiff in our area needing a home. It must be fate-we hadn't really told anyone about getting active in Rescue again. The person that currently has Annie hoped she could keep her forever. However, she is renting and the landlord really doesn't want that big of a pet on the property. She has had her for 2 months. Kathleen got Annie from a young couple that had her for two weeks. They rescued her from a neglectful neighbor that left her tied outside on a 6 foot chain as a young puppy. She was very thin and already had large callouses on her elbows from laying on a hard surface. Kathleen brought Annie over for us to evaluate yesterday. She is a lovely fawn brindle (Annie not Kathleen). Caroline thinks she is a bit older than the 8 months Kathleen told us--more like 9-10 months. She is small by our standards (90#) and will probably never be more than 130-140#. She will make a wonderful pet and companion. Her temperament is wonderful. She is leash and house trained. She gets along well with other dogs and wasn't the least bothered by our hooligans barking at her. The Emus next door did get her attention. :-) She will chase a cat IF the cat runs, otherwise is fine. According to Kathleen, she really loves to be near children. Annie is spayed though no one is sure about vaccinations. Her current owner has treated the sores on her elbows with antibiotics and antibiotic ointment. For now, Annie is staying with Kathleen and we would really like to place her privately rather than burden MCOA Rescue with another dog. Annie was adopted on Jan. 20, 2003.
