What Is SPAM?

SPAM is Internet jargon for unsolicited e-mail. Originally, a spammer would do something do bombard someone's e-mail account. This would range from an innocent joke to a spiteful act to piss someone off. The spammer would write a program that continuously sent e-mail to someone's account or sent e-mail to a group of people that would entice an angry response. The spammer would also change the "reply to" address to the unsuspecting spamee. Today, the term SPAM generally refers to "Junk mail." Unlike junk mail or junk faxes (which were outlawed) junk e-mail has relatively no cost to the sender.
