| Jo Anne's West Street Shopping Center Keene, NH |
I have found all sorts of wonderful Fabric here for my dolls. I bought some really nice brown robe velour for my teddy bear doll pins. They carry doll hair, patterns, joints, and other accessories. I really like this store. I bought Air Tex on sale there a couple few months ago for a $1 a bag. You can purchase the Pima Micron Pens and Fabric Mate pens there. You can also by paint there but I would purchase my tulip Fabric paint at Walmart (in Hinsdale,NH) because it is cheaper. |

| 4th Street, from Bainbridge to Christian Street | 4th Street, from Bainbridge to Christian Street (a few blocks west of the Delaware River, and just south of South Street, "the hippest street in town") has an entire row of little storefront fabric shops. Park on Bainbridge and walk around. Some specialize in upholstery or bridal materials, and others have a more general selection. There is also a doll shop and a doll house shop. Most are 9-5 Tues-Sat kind of shops, so don't count on much being open on Sunday (although I did get a fantastic bargain one Sunday when the mother-in-law of the proprietress of a store sold me velvet for the price of velour because neither of us knew enough about fabric to tell the difference.) Prices are often unbelievably low. Good to know what you want to buy before you go, because many stores specialize in a few things and many don't sell patterns or notions. Most of the employees are pretty knowledgeable, so if the store you are in doesn't sell something, they usually know which one will. Plan on hitting most of the shops, and look for hidden stairways to basements in some stores where there are even more treasures. |
| Pearl Arts and Craft. South Street just west of 4th Street Philadelphia, PA | Lots of fun to browse there, because they have a little of everything, though not the best quality in the doll making department. Their art supplies are good quality, and they would have any kind of colored pens or pencils you want, and they carry some doll magazines. They have a good supply of polymer clay and mold and casting materials; Just to refresh yourself after all this hard shopping, check out one of the restaurants or bars (some with open air seating in summer) or the Rose Pastry Shop at 4th and Bainbridge. Tower Records has a three level store with almost everything, except classical, which is across the street in a whole annex for itself. |
| Main Line of Philadelphia ( western suburbs along the Amtrak line): Lancaster Ave, (US 30, Lincoln Highway), | his area has numerous doll and doll house stores along it. In Wayne, there is a cluster of stores. Rochelle's Doll Land near Wayne and Lancaster Aves. has dolls and clothes, though they tend to be a bit expensive. There are also a number of consignment shops in the area around Lancaster and Wayne Aves. which sell dolls and clothing along with other craft items and second hand goods, and there is a small art/craft store. At the corner of Wayne and Lancaster, there is a chocolate and pastry shop. Going west, Nadine's Miniatures (tucked in a small shopping center with the unfortunate name of Spread Eagle Village) has an extensive collection of doll house supplies and some doll clothing. There is a Calico Corners a little farther west at Old Eagle School Rd. that has upholstery fabrics. Keep going through Devon, and Waterloo Gardens is a flower shop with silk flowers and other decorative knick knacks. Farther west, in Berwyn, there is a store on Lancaster called Heather Lane with a pretty good selection of dolls and a lot of doll clothes at good prices, including some for both the American Girl and the thinner Magic Attic dolls. You can buy some of the items from their catalogs a la carte, instead of the usual packages of assorted items that go with one story. There are also a lot of doll clothing patterns. |
