Tango
Boat 53 "Home Sweet Home" Grand Canal, Cambodian Border. This was our home.
Eight Americans to begin with and as turnover approached it was two Americans and Eight
Vietnamese. When it got down to Two of us and Eight of them I was ready to go....
Tango
Boat on the Move. She was a like the A-10 Wart Hogs in Desert Storm.. Like an Ugly girl at
the Dance....Not to much to look at but nice to have around. We had two 20mm Cannons on
the back, Two automatic 40mm Grenande Launchers, Four M-60 machine Guns, Three 50 Caliber
Machine Guns and one Mk21 Machine Gun(converted 30 cal to shoot 7.62 m-60 rounds)
Eric
Dussell Shaving (Still Looking For Him)
Randy
Lyons (Still Looking for Him) from Texas.
Me
down in the 20mm Gun Tub. This is the one that Blew up on Randy. Three shells exploded
outside the chamber. Covered Lyons in Brass...22 stitches I think..
Tom
Donahue(still Looking for Him) catching a nap. Slept a lot in the daytime cause we were up
all night. He was looking for a Breeze..
Jerry
Elliott and Myself down in the Flak Curtians. (Still looking for Jerry)
One
Home made Water Ski and one sent from Texas. Who said we couldn't have a little fun. I
think you may have seen skiing on some of the War Movies.
Airboats Manned by Chinese Mercenaries Operated By US Army Special
Forces. These Boats patrolled the Plan of Reeds from here to Cambodia. They could go over
the Reeds and get to Tree Lines and High Ground where the enemy stayed. We would ride with
the newbies who were getting trained. You have to Wagon wheel the target and keep it under
fire..No Problem.!.!
Well you have seen the Daytime activities... This is the
nightime.!
Tracers from a Sea Wolf Mini Gun. We are getting
Fired on from the River Bank. Suppose they gave a war and no one had a camera.
It was rather peaceful a few hours ago. Just us and the
quite night. Now we have Sea Wolfs and Ov-10s overhead and the steady stream
of Tracers light up the sky. It wasn't every night but it was often enough.
Kinda Gives New Meaning to the Rockets Red Glare..
Rockets
from a Sea Wolf or OV-10 Bronco...
This concludes the Picture Tour of Life on the Grand
Canal "Tango Boat 53"
There is more to come as we took the boat to
the USS Saytr for repairs.
