In Fangoria's Special Wham-o, Blam-o 150th ish, they printed a new interview with Sam. Most of it was about his CBS project "American Gothic", and since this isn't the American Gothic Homepage (even though it rules), we'll only printed the parts where he talks about EVIL DEAD or Bruce. ...One of the other thrills of watching American Gothic, aside from it's devilish sense of humor and strong acting, is the chance to see familiar faces from Raimi's past popping up for cameos...Bruce Campbell creeped in for a clever episode entitled "Meet the Beatles," in which he played a detective investigating a murder. "When the episode was written and I saw that we had to cover somebody with beetles that were supposed to eat the flesh off the character, I figured that it was a good role for Bruce," says Raimi, who has often joked that his goal in life is to constantly torture Campbell. "I love to see Bruce in pain, and now that we have a full order for the season, we might even see his character again. Bruce had the idea of bringing him back with a half-eaten face, which isn't a bad idea." ...Another oft-rumored project that Raimi eventually get around to is the fourth installment in the Evil Dead series, though it may be quite some time before that ever gets off the ground. "I would like to direct it and go back to it's roots - it would have to be down-and-dirty," Raimi says. "It would be more like Evil Dead II - 80 minutes of Bruce Campbell basically being abused, because that's something I haven't beaten out of his system yet." ...Raimi is also grateful to Fango for believing in him back in 1983, when Evil Dead was gloriously displayed on the magazine's cover. "Fangoria really gave us a break back then, and I never forgot it," he says. "We were these cheesy Detroit filmmakers who had a 16mm drive-in picture, and when Fangoria put Bruce on the cover, it was like a nobody rock-and-roll musician being on the cover of Rolling Stone. We were validated and OK in the horror world, and that really gave us credibility."
