    The early settlement, Trisloch (Triesloch), north of Kappel was destroyed by passing Swedish troops in 1638.

    Formerly there was a bridge over the Rhine which was available until 1951; now there is a ferry.

    Church: Minister and church were first mentioned in 1297. In 1666 the church of St. Cyprian and St. Nikolaus appeared. A church building was built in 1737, expanded in 1827 and destroyed in 1945. The present Catholic Parish Church of St. Cyprian and Justina belongs to the Wittenweier Parrish. It was built in 1949. Church records (used in the Dofsippensbuch) go back to 1699.
