Semoff Bros. Racing
1999 R1 Modifications:
We replaced the stock bodywork with aftermarket parts from 'Sharkskinz'. This included all bodywork and the front fender.
We are using a D&D full system. We experience a dramatic power gain and weight loss after removing the cast iron EXUP system.
We installed a Factory jet kit and followed their enclosed reccommendations. We retained the stock springs and backed the air mixture screws out 2.0 turns from bottom. We installed a BMC air filter - it makes the bike breathe much better.
A Toby steering damper was installed to settle those high speed wobbles and tank slappers.
We are using Dunlop slicks. However, we used the 207GP hard compound during a race recently when the track was still damp and they worked great!
We replaced the stock shock with a Penske. In addition, we installed the Graves rear suspension link.
We replaced the stock windscreen with a Lockhart Phillips Speedscreen.
We replaced the stock side case covers with APE case covers.
We installed clip-ons from Graves Motorsports.
We used EBC Double H Sintered brake pads. They work great and last a long time (and their contingency program doesn't hurt, either!!!!)
We used Motul fluids. Per the Motul rep, we use 2 liters of Motul 3100 and 1 liter of Motul 300V. We then top it off with the 3100. We replaced the stock brake and clutch fluid with Motul 300C. We replaced the stock fork oil with Motul 10w Fork Oil.
We replaced the stock gearing and chain with 530. Many people convert to the 520 for weight savings, but, we feel safer with the 530. Many people will say that the 520 is plenty strong, but, it is just our preference to go with 530. We are using sprockets from Sprocket Specialists
We replaced the stock brake and clutch lines with Russell braided stainless steel lines.
We replaced the stock fork springs and installed 85 Race Tech springs.
As with all race bikes, we had to fabricate some parts. Among them, a lightweight front fairing mount, a lightweight exhaust bracket, and a case guard to protect the clutch cover and puller.
As you can see, the modifications were not extensive. Although we run in the superbike class where there is no limit to the modifications, we haven't gone far from the stock set up.
