FORUMS FOR CATECHISTS
About Internet Forums
To me, one of the great things about the internet is the ability to contact like-minded people to discuss topics of mutual interest. My favorite way to do that is through email lists.  Email lists, or listserves are mailing lists to which you subscribe.  They are like round-robin pen pals.  A member sends a message to the list and it is distributed to all other members.  A recipient may respond to the author only or to the entire group.  Some topics promote much conversation, others die a quick death.Different lists have different offical rules and different unofficial rules as well.  Some are free-for-alls, where anyone can post anything.  The other extreme is a list where every message must be approved by a moderator.  Good "netiquitte" is to "lurk" (just read) a list for a while to learn whether you and the list are a good fit.Below are links to some email groups I have found (or in one case, founded).  Most are run by yahoogroups  which not only distributes current messages, but archives old ones.  Yahoogroups also allows groups to share files and bookmarks, and gives you a chat room.  If none of the groups below seems appropriate for you, start your own!

Catechist:  This is the best list out there for Catholic Catechists if I say so myself, even if I am the owner/moderator.  This is a list about teaching religon and we share tricks and tips, methods and materials.  We do not debate or seriously discuss doctrine or Church practice.  As moderator I post a weekly discussion topic to stimulate discussion, not to limit it.  Anything related to teaching religon is on-topic; off-topic discussion is discouraged.

DRE Talk:  This is a list for Catholic Parish Directors of Religious Education and Catechetical Leaders to share visions, hopes, ideas and struggles. It was created by NPCD, the National Association of Parish Catechetical Directors, part of the Religious Education Dept. of NCEA.   The NPCD Executive Board members manage the list.

Catholic-reled-bb:  The primary objective of this mailing list is to announce the publication of new issues of Catholic Religious Education Webzine and updates to the Resources for Catholic Educators web site. You can also use this list to post announcements about upcoming events for religious educators and information about relevant and useful web sites. If you wish to share ideas and lesson plans please feel free to do so as well. Commercial ads are also welcome as long as they provide information on products that could be of interest and use to religious educators. Note: This group is moderated.

CatholicCatechist:  A general list for catechists.  This list's strength is its shared files.

DRE On-line:   This is a message board, not an email list.
