JOHN: After his marriage, he continued working on ranches for a few years (margin note refers to him working for Cal Sloan of Ponca City, Oklahoma when married), finally decided to become a farmer. When children were small, he moved to Hominy, Oklahoma and became a Constable and, later, a Deputy Sheriff for a few years and later moved back to the farm."
The following information is an excerpt of a letter from Lucile and Norma Lantz.
"In 1920, John Bud Walker went to Arkansas looking for a farm with cheaper taxes. He bought 40 acres, north of Gassville, from Isaac Covington. He went back to Hominy, OK and loaded a railroad car on the Carter Oil Camp spur, which was near their home. Into the car went the furniture, belongings and 3 horses, Little Bonnie, her daughter Nellie, and Nellie's son Billy. This was in 1921.
They boarded the train with John Bud riding the stock car, as he had to
feed, water and off-load the stock enroute. Dorrit and Lucile rode in the
passenger car (Clara Mae and John Clark remained in Oklahoma) and arrived a
day or two ahead of John Bud. The family, who were living at the farm, had not
vacated, so Grandpa (John Bud) gave them $100 to leave. Grandma (Dorrit) told
him if he'd give her that $100, she'd take Lucile and go back to
Oklahoma."
