Feel free to contact me at any time...We need to raise $13,000 to send our state champions to Kansas City, Missouri...read the letter it explains it all!! Again thank you, Michele Leahy..." The letter Michele mentions is one dated April 2007, written by Adam Travers, Vinal SkillsUSA team president, explaining the great successes of the Vinal SkillsUSA team, who will be traveling in June to the national competition-on a completely self-financed trip-hence the importance of fundraisers like this. Additional info - I did a bit of googling on "East Haddam Grange Hall," and from what I've been able to turn up, it appears to be located on Town Street (a.k.a. Rt. 151), "...at the intersection of Rt 151 and East Haddam-Colchester Turnpike..." - and from what I can see, "East Haddam-Colchester Turnpike" is also known as "Orchard Road" on the west side of Rt. 151, and also as "Olmstead Road" further out east past the Moodus Reservoir. The general location of the East Haddam Grange Hall also appears to be listed as "Little Haddam" on some maps. Oh, and we also just located a Hartford Courant news item online about this event: http://www.courant.com/news/local/sr/hc-1nbrf0427_3.artapr27,0,4596814.story (this event was added to this calendar as of 4/29/2007)

Here is information about the listing. I'll also send you last year's ad book and a price list for the various size ads. We'd love to have some more ads for the book this year (webmaster's note: Marianne was responding to my inquiry about show booklet advertising opportunities--I'd certainly suggest that anyone with a car-related business on the CT Shoreline might also wish to inquire with the Lyme-Old Lyme Lions Club car show staff--this is an extremely well-done antique auto event, with substantial show car, flea market, and spectator participation!)...This will be our 3rd year, and it is a great family event. Some of the cars participate in our town Memorial Day Parade, which coincides with the car show. Thank you very much!..." Thank you Marianne! Additional info - I've since received the show booklet advertising info, which included this significant background information about the organization: "The Lyme-Old Lyme Lions Club is a non-profit charitable organization whose principle thrust is sight and sight related problems. JUNE 17, 2007, Sunday, Branford - Branford Festival Classic Car Cruise. From what we've been able to discern through studying the Branford Festival web site (www.branfordfestival.com), this event will indeed be happening again this year. The "Branford Festival Information and Schedule of Events" page (http://www.branfordfestival.com/festinfo.htm) page lists 9:20am for the "Car Cruise Parade," which, if it's the same as it's been done in years passed, starts at the Cherry Hill Commuter Lot (near Wal-Mart), and 10:15am for "Arrive at the Branford Green." Speaking from my own experience, it's also possible to arrive later at the Green, and then just drive in and find a good place to park, either behind, on the west side of, or in front of Town Hall. There is a dedicated Classic Car Cruise info page at the Festival web site, with some info that appears to be out-of-date, but probably provides as least the basics: http://www.branfordfestival.com/bfccc.htm - including the "Cruise Parade" route map: http://www.branfordfestival.com/mapccpr.htm - and also a map of the Green: http://www.branfordfestival.com/mapcc.htm (though it should also be noted that many participating cars were arranged last year on the lawn in FRONT of Town Hall also, as pointed out above). The contact for the Branford Festival Classic Car Cruise is listed as Gary Dinello, with e-mail: garywelder@sbcglobal.net . And of course the main Branford Festival mailing address is: P.O. Box 853, Branford, CT 06405. Finally, here are a couple of our own reports on the positively great times we've had participating in the Branford Festival Classic Car Cruise: the 2004 event - http://members.aol.com/foxcraft/BranfordFestCCC2004.html - and the 2006 event - http://members.aol.com/cgearannex/BfdFestClassCarCruz06.html (this event was added to this calendar as of 5/19/2007)

JUNE 21, 2007, Thursday, Southington - Antique Automobile Specialist Dennis David lecture at Barnes Museum, Thursday, June 21, 2007, 6pm, 2007. Location: Barnes Museum, 85 North Main Street, Southington, CT 06489, phone 860-628-5426. Quoting from an article that appeared in the 6/15/2007 edition of the Meriden Record-Journal newspaper (article entitled "Car enthusiast finds autos a great vehicle for telling stories," by Erin R. King, Special to the Record-Journal): "...You could call Dennis David a car guy. He writes about them, helps other auto enthusiasts learn more about their vehicles, and collects a few himself. But the Southington native, teacher, and author of four books says the most interesting thing about the topic is usually not the car itself, but the person behind the wheel. "What fascinates me most about cars is almost not the cars themselves but the sociological effects of cars on people," he said. Cars and computers, he said, were two important advances that drastically changed the way we lived in the 20th century. One local example of the former is seen in the life and times of Bradley Barnes, the man who left his home and everything inside of it to the town. That house, at 85 N. Main St., is now the Barnes Museum, and David will be guest speaker there on Thursday, June 21, at 6pm...Also on exhibit at the Barnes Museum next Thursday evening, weather permitting, will be as many as a dozen antique autos from the 1930s through '50s--including a few DeSotos-and the museum's carriage house will also be open for visitors to check out Barnes' collection of marker plates, according to museum Curator Marie Secondo. Reservations for the talk and antique auto show are not necessary. For additional information on the event, call the museum at 860-628-5426. More information on Dennis David, his books and his auto research and appraisal services is available on his web site www.dennisdavidauto.com ..."
