Old Swedes Church and the Schorn Log Cabin in Swedesboro, NJ

This is the oldest deeded church property in the Gloucester County and the first Lutheran congregation in New Jersey. The first log church was built in 1703 and the present church in 1784.

Because the Swedish government stopped sending ministers to America, the congregation became Episcopalian in 1786.

Schorn Log Cabin

On the grounds of the church you will also find a restored early 18th century log cabin. It was dedicated in 1989 by the Cloucester County Historical Society. It originally stood on the Schorn family property west of Swedesboro along Raccoon Creek and had probably been used as a granary by early Swedish settlers.
